Default Contour Cutting question

I've read up on this type of cutting but have a question.

I want to cut out heat transfers to minimize the backing showing, but since it is a piece of paper that will need to be cut all the way through, it will need to be adhered to something.

What do I use for the carrier?

Magic Mask would be good. It is available from BeaconGraphics.com. For 8.5X11 carrier Joann's fabric sells the carrier for Cricut machines.

Some claim that JPSS do not need a carrier if it is not cut all the way through. I don't have any luck weeding it. The polymer crumbles on me. So I use the masking technique that I use for light transfers. I print the contour line in a plain paper. Cut out the image part. Cover & align it to the transfer. Cover both papers with parchment then press them for few seconds at low temp and pressure. Then press the pair on the shirt with the mask in the bottom using the pressing setting of the heat transfer paper. Peel cold or hot depending on the paper. I use the technique with both inkjet and laser light transfers.

See the detail in the link below.

You should not need a carrier. I contour cut JPSS all the time with no carrier. You just set your blade really shallow and just cut through the polymer. Then you just weed it off the top like you would weed vinyl.

You can use a carrier if you want to cut all the way through. I prefer not to as it's an added expense.

Good Luck!!!
