I just got a new laptop with Vista (32-bit) and am trying to install the GX-24 driver, but having no luck. I originally tried installing the drivers from my original CD that came with the cutter, and I think that was a mistake. It did not work. So I went through the instructions that tell you how to Uninstall the driver, and it seemed to uninstall successfully.
But now when I plug in the cutter to my USB port, it says it finds the new hardware and then says the GX-24 has been installed successfully. But of course it hasn't, because there's not even a GX-24 printer icon to choose from. It's supposed to prompt me for the location of the driver when I plug it in, but it never does, so I cannot figure out how to install the new Vista driver I downloaded from Roland's website.
I already downloaded the driver as I stated in my post, but I cannot install it. How do you install it, when it will not let you specify the location of the file of the new driver?
Just bumping this for any help? Still cannot install the GX-24 driver.
thanks,
Rusty
Rusty,
Unzip the driver file and put it on the Desktop. Then you will be able to find it with the Found New Hardware wizard. you can't install the file while it is still zipped and the Desktop is the easiest location to search from.
That's not the problem. The problem is that it never asks me for the file. When I plug in the cutter, it says it was installed successfully. Of course I know its not because it doesn't work and it goes through the same "Found New Hardware" routine every time I plug it in.
It's like it thinks it has the driver already, but it's not the right one, and will not let me give it the right one. Is there a way to manually remove whatever driver it thinks it's using?
I've tried to come up with a solution but i give up, i surrender. With a very bad headache.
I don't remeber ever having to install anything other than what came on the cd's.
I was under the impression form the start that the gx-24 was compatible with vista 32bit version.
I've studied the manual and i don't know why it's not working, i really don't.
Are you following the manual?
I'm sure you are, however, the only thing i can find that would make the installation impossible is if the cutter and the computer are connected during the installation of the driver. Thus making installation impossible.

According to the instructions I downloaded from Roland's website, it says to remove any previous versions of the driver completely. Then just plug the cutter into the computer via USB and wait until it asks if you have the driver, and then specify the location. I have the driver, and know the location. But it never asks me for anything. It just automatically says that it installed the GX-24 successfully.
The driver has to be installed before there is any kind of connection between the two otherwise it will not work. If it says it's installed it must be somewhere. You need to go into your device manager with the two connected and uninstall the gx-24. Then remove from the usb and restart the computer. Then uninstall the driver via the cd in the cd-rom drive. Then redo the installation from the beginning.

You are a genius! That's exactly what I was looking for. The device manager tip is what fixed it. Just did a successful test.
