Default roland versa works cuts outline

When I outline lets say word that are black with red or any color the problem is i have to outline again to make a cutout line with my versaworks and then it cuts out on the outline so i never have a color around anything. I can never outline anything and keep my outline color ?
thanks Belinda

Have you converted your outline to the object? You may also want to try to create a boundary and make that your cut contour line. What program are you designing in? I may be able to help with Corel, but not sure if you are using a different one.

Hi
I use ilustrator cs4 for the design then open versaworks for the cut outline.

In Corel, I have a spot color that is named CutContour. I generally have the text outline and then convert the outline to the object. I don't know anything about how Illustrator works, but maybe it has a similar function. You can then add an additional outline, which would be the cut contour. Maybe there is a forum for Illustrator users that you could check out. The other forum that I use is Signs 101 Home - Signs 101 and someone there may have an answer for you.

so you're saying that you need to get a stroke line to cut?

go to object>path>outline stroke. the width of the cutline will be determined by the weight of the stroke itself, so you can change it. i then copy that to another layer if it's going to cut separately i.e. another color. you can also do it by using the object>path>offset path setting. also it's easier to see and for that matter, design for cutting in view>wireframe mode. hope this is what you needed.
