Is there a type of vinyl (and transfer tape) that can be use for window decals, wall decoration, signs and vehicle lettering all the same? I've red some of the posts and I could not find an answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
you can use mostly anybrand to do it all. I use AVERY but Oracle is also good. They both have different levels of vinyl some are calandered 4-5 years and go up. They do make this material very thin so if you are doing car graphics it really molds to the body lines. Both Clear and Colore app tape work fine. I have found that the white app tape works better for applying wet where as the clear is a little harder to work with.
I've red here that Oracal 651 would be the answer then. It amazes me that the same material can withstand extreme temps (live in Florida up to 110 degrees in the sun) as well as work well on walls with out damaging or leaving marks on it or am I wrong? If not, that's what I am going to go for. Thanks for your reply.
[quote=DecalGuy;543622]I would suggest Oracal 631 for inside walls it has a 1/4 the adhesion as 651 but you will also need a low tack transfer tape to apply it.
Thanks for the input Mike. I am just starting out and I am going to open up a shop. At this point my equipment is a Roland GX24 that it is why at the moment I will not try to specialize my self on only cars, signs, or decals but a little bit of everything. Another thing that I really need to know is what is the actual material of the sign. I heard some people talk about cloroplast (what is it and where can I find it) Can I use vinyl on wood? I was considering going to home depot and doing my on signs with whatever material they have that vinyl can adhere to it. Please any advise would be great for I only have one week before "Grand Opening" Does it look like a nervous laugh?
24 x 18 inch coroplast signs are great to do. Coroplast is corrugated plastic and is very durable. Also look at aluminium signs they come in all shapes and sizes.
I don't keep any signs in stock I just order them on a need basis. I keep only 4 or 5 colors of sign vinyl red, blue, black, white and yellow, the same with t-shirt vinyl except the yellow is called Athletic Gold. I like R Tape for transfer tape and usually keep 3 - 24" rolls and 3 - 12" rolls at all times.
Pick up a couple of rolls of Oracal 631 for doing wall words inside. Black is always good, then maybe one other color. It's a quick and easy way to make money. You can use other types of vinyls on walls, but they are hard to get off without damaging the wall. 631 can be used on walls, ceramic tiles, furniture, about anything inside. If you google wall words, you will see a lot of websites selling the finished product that can give you some inspiration.
Thank you for your coment. I also have one other question. I was thinking if it would be legal for me to make some of these wall decorations with letters of football teams? For example the word COLTS in a blue color vinyl or RAVENS in black, just names with out the logos or anything.
I was approached by someone that wants a vinyl decal on a hardwood floor. I have oracal 651-would that work or would you suggest 631? this is for a small indoor basketball court.

651 would work don't know how long it would last and a ball court. I did something similar but coated it with polyurethane for a flooring company here is a pic.
