Question Which cutter to start with?

Hi All,

Sorry for rehashing an old topic, but.......

I'm looking to expand my business by adding a vinyl cutter. I'll be using it to do banners, window signs, and vehicle lettering (low volume). I also plan on cutting heat transfer materials for tees and stencil material for rhinestone designs.

I outsource right now but would like to have the capability of doing it myself. I've looked at the Cricut 24" craft cutter but don't think it will meet my needs. Obviously I'm looking to start off as inexpensively as possible while being able to output a quality product.

I'm considering the USCutter Creation PCUT Vinyl Cutter or the LaserPoint Vinyl Cutter w/ CONTOUR CUTTING feature. But from posts there seems to be a lot of problems with it.

I've had mixed responses from suppliers of more expensive machines (a waste of money) and from searching on the web (issues that some seem to have overcome), but would like to hear from someone who owns either machine and can tell me about their experience.

Are there any other machines out there in that price range (under $500) that I should consider (any success stories)?

Is it worth waiting to buy a more expensive machine?

Thanks for the advice and GOD bless,

Richard

I was looking at a lower cost machine as well but decided to go with a Roland GX24 with the electronic eye. One of the best investments I've made for my business. I think the selling feature is you can fire out a sample in a few minutes plus cut paper transfers printed on a colour printer with registration marks the cutter can read. When a customer sees the sample they can't resist buying a whole bunch.

I have a Copam 4050.. so its the 48" machine.

It works, and most of my problem have been user errors. Except for the mother board and power supply that have needed to be replaced already.. and I bought it in Feb of this year.. So thats 5 months. Thankfully they covered it but changing those parts out was not an easy task.

I made the mistake of thinking long term.. If I would have to do it again, i'd get the machine that could read print registration marks.. I now would have to buy a print and cut machine (such as the versacamm). But if I would have used my head and spent a little bit extra, i'd be able to just buy a printer and use the cutter I already have..

I would go with the roland now that I have used the copam.
