What Do You Think Of This Printer For Vinyl Shirt Transfers
This printer was recommended to me by a guy on another forum for doing vinyl transfers. I really trust all you guys on here, so can you tell me what you think? I think I'm getting this and the GX 24.
Also, should I go with the bulk ink system upgrade. It says it saves you money on ink in the long run. It uses UV resistant dye ink.

Also, does anyone know what type of ink has to be used to print on vinyls like Quick Print or Vivid Print from Imprintables? Does it have to be Eco-Solvent ink? Can you use Dye or Pigment inks? Thanks again comrades.

It is cheap to buy, but my concern is that it would wash off the vinyl or not dry on the vinyl. I know solvent ink works on vinyl, but you really can't find a solvent printer for less than a thousand bucks. Are you all pretty sure that this type of printer and ink will work on vinyl and wash? Thanks again.

That's exactly what I want to do. I just need to find a printer that will do this well enough for under 1000. Do you know what I'll need? What kind of ink will work?

There seems to be a vinyl that can be printed by an ink-jet. Check with Motoskingrafix as he knows more about it. If you check on today's screen printing section there was a mention on this.
cheers.
Re: What Do You Think Of This Printer For Vinyl Shirt Transfers
i've seen many of your posts and can tell that you are confused about what equipment to buy for what you want to do.
first of all let me say this. you can't PRINT on vinyl from a desktop inkjet printer. the inks used in today's photo inkjet printers (like this epson) are for papers, not vinyl. think about this: vinyl is a slick glossy product. the inks are wet and meant to be absorbed by a paper material. some photo papers are glossy but they have an absorbancey (sp) level. the material that's mentioned above has to be laminated after printing it. so it's not a material that can be printed on and then sold as is.
i used to screen print on vinyl in the army. it was a special ink we used back then. unless the technologies have far surpassed my knowing you've got to use solvent based inks. what desktop inkjet printer uses solvent inks, then chemicals for cleanup?
IMO you are getting the terms inkjet transfers (done on inkjet transfer paper) and vinyl printed heat applied material mixed up. yes you can print inkjet heat transfers on this epson printer. no you can't print ON vinyl with it. check out these products:
and check out their prices. do you really think you can achieve the same thing with a $199 epson desktop? i'm with you. i'd hope there be a cheaper solution for what you want to do. but it ain't easy and it ain't cheap. -good luck man.

You can successfully inkjet print on coated vinyl. I'm referring to ImageStixx. From what I have seen, this product has come a long way in coating quality in the past 24 months. You would be limited to 11" X 14" per section or tile. So it does have limitations as it would not be suitable for large installations. I use it for contour cut vehicle stickers and am pleased with it's all weather durability when used with pigmented ink. In spite of many calling it ImageStixx paper, the backing is a poly vinyl base.
