Default Newbie Question - Transfer Printer/Plotter

O.K. here is what I am looking to do, so any and all advise would be greatly appreciated!
I want to be able to print out various size transfers (caps, lg back shirt prints). On lights as well as dark garments. I will need these items to be trimmed (weeded i guess is the term), so that you dont have all that excess around the print. Suggestions on printers, printer/plotters, or cutters. Would I be better off purchasing a printer/plotter, or a printer then using some sort of cutter/weeder thing? I am just like everone else, I don't want to spend a fortune. That is why I am asking all the pro's on this site for advise.
Again, thank you in advance for all your help and suggestions!
Janet

Default Re: Newbie Question - Transfer Printer/Plotter

I was in the same situation and found a great cutter/plotter at a great price to test out the waters so to speak. I got a Graphtec CraftRobo with the optical eye that reads registration marks. When you are making your design (I use photoshop or Illustrator) you can add the registration marks to your design. This allows the plotter to know the points on where to cut and the machine does the rest.

This machine only does 8 1/2 x 11 sheets, I am getting ready to upgrade soon now that I know how to use the machine and so forth. Do a search on youtube for the graphtec craftrobo and you can see the machine in action. I found the machine on ebay for $80 used and it was in mint condition. They do make bigger ones to do up to 13x19 but they are priced at $500+

Hope this helps! Big difference when you have your designs perfectly cut out (weeded). Especially some designs that are impossible to cut by scissors....that gets old after awhile. You get a perfect clean cut image every time.

Best Regards,
Ken
