What should I learn next after vinyl t-shirt transfers? Decals/Signs?
hi all,
Well ive had my Graphtec Vinyl cutter for about 6 months now, ive taught myself everything so far and its been going well.
So far I have only used it for t shirt vinyl, cutting fairly basic designs out and making t shirts. I feel like I know this well enough now and I want to start using it for something else.
What would be the next best (most logical) thing to learn?
This question is kind of geared to people that are fairly new as well, what did you all do next?
Eventually I want to know how to use all the features on the machine and make everything that is possible, but just want to learn and master one thing at a time.
Im thinking stickers?
Im using a Graphtec CE5000 so it has an optical eye so no limitations there.
Or would learning to make signs be a more natural progression?
Re: What should I learn next after vinyl t-shirt transfers? Decals/Signs?
The possibilities are endless with vinyl cutters. Try making some decals or banners - you can decorate anything, you can even make wall art with a vinyl cutter.

Decals for shopwindows and cars would be a natural followup. You could possibly find out that its easier and a bigger money earner than doing tees.

OK cool, just a stupid question here: Are Decals any different from stickers? Is it just a different name for the same thing or are they two simalar but different things all together?
Just want to know what to start looking for and what I will need
When I looked into things for making stickers here in the UK (I want to make stickers to give out for my brand anyway) it was cheaper to get them made by a specialist sticker company than to buy the consumables and make them myself

How do you print the decals to cut on the GX-24? Is there a specific vinyl that can be printed on? Is there a specific printer/ink that must be used on such a material?
I have also just started with my GX-24 and have only used it to work on t-shirt designs.

Stickers vs decals is like going for your haircut.
You can go to a barber or to a hairdresser, same cut but usually different prices.

Yes, there is a specific printer for printing on vinyl. Its the versacamm same company as your cutter, it is considered as the best, but its also quite expensive to buy.
However if you're planning to do small printed decals you can get polyester label sheets in A4 format that are printable by either laser or inkjets.
Re: What should I learn next after vinyl t-shirt transfers? Decals/Signs?
Can you cut these A4 sheets after printing with an inkjet or is it just a simple print and peel on a specific predetermined size?
Thanks for the info.

The ones that I've used were precut circles and squares that I've used on car windscreens.
However if you look two post below this one, a certain member called Jim has supplied the address of a UK company selling A4 format vinyl suitable for both inkjet and laser printing.
Hope this helps you.

I would argue that print and contour cut decals are different that cad cut vinyl graphics (decals). The pricing is different and the amout of weeding work is different.
