From a large printer technician view I have worked with all of the solvent printers. He is right the epson is a sweet machine but its cost and industry its directed towards is probably not for you. The roland Versacamm is the workhorse of the solvent printers. Pro's for both : Sp540 has been in manufacturing longer than any other solvent printer for a reason its reliable and ease of use especially the learning curve is at the least has great RIP software thats propriatary to Roland equipment. You get 2 year outdoor durability unlaminated. Modes are Print, Cut, Print/cut, or print/laminate/cut. Comes with the best 1 year warranty in buisness. pros of VP-540 it too is a very reliable printer it is a redesign and engineered better than the SP. You get 4 color 4 channel 4 head great coverage and better heaters. That being said it comes with a take up reel which is great uses the same good RIP and easy to learn actually you would love this machine "I do" it uses roland intelligent pass control which eliminates banding. The VP is about 50sq ft.per hr. faster than the SP and comes with the industries best 2yr. warranty. It also is print,cut,print/cut, print/laminate/cut. With both machines they dont put any odor out like others do. Remember though the SP only runs 2 heads with 4 colors so they are split channeld. SP-540 rumor has it will be ending production some time soon. they retail for 15.900. the VP 19,995. Whom ever you buy from should be giving you a free set of ink and some media like vinyl and banner, also the seller should give you 8 hours or a full day of training and don let them slip on that.
