Default GX24 blades

Just purchased a used Roland GX24 and I have a couple of questions about the blades. I was told that the 45 is used for shirt vinyl, and the 60 is used for sign vinyl. When I change these back and forth, do I have to adjust the depth everytime? Also, I did the test and had the depth correct for the sample cut, and then went to cut out a few letters. Some of them didn't cut deep enough, some cut through the paper. With all the great talk about this cutter I have to be doing something wrong because this is a big pain. Any suggestions or tips on this or anything else about this cutter would be great appreciated!

You are going to use a 45 for some shirt vinyl, and a 60 for some shirt vinyl. Not neccesarilly one for shirt vinyl and the other for sign vinyl. Check the specific vinyl that you purchase to see what they recommend. Depending on the type and what you are cutting, you will need to adjust accordingly.

For example, if you are ordering your vinyl from Stahls, they have Fashion Film which is much much thinner then their regular Thermal Film.

Sounds like your cutter might not be level, hence the reason when you go to cut text, some will cut correctly and others will not.

Good luck!

Another setting that will affect your cut is the offset. Not only do you need to adjust your force and blade depth but you will also need to change your offset.

Offset will change the way your blade adjusts to cut square corners or curves. Based on your description it could be an offset issue.

Each manufacturer should provide you with cutting instructions including the offset for their material. I have attached copy of Stahls' handy chart.

To change offset on GX-24:
Hit Menu 2X's until Condition appears on display.

Right arrow to go in to condition menu

Up or Down arrow to scroll through condition menu until offset is on display.

Right arrow to go into offset

Up and Down arrow to adjust offset and then press enter once offset is correct.
