Question 2nd hand Roland SX-15, £300 a good price?

I'm wanting to start producing my own custom designed shirts (just for wearing and maybe selling a couple to friends or whatever).

I want a relatively small and inexpensive vinyl cutter and the SX-15 seems like a good buy. Also, I want a reliable machine so I hope Roland have a good reputation.

So here are my questions:
  • I've found a decent 2nd-hand one for £300. Is that a good price?
  • Are they good value for money?
  • I'm pretty sure it will work with Illustrator on a Mac. Will it?
  • What dimensions will it cut? (I hear about 15" wide by 40" long)
  • How easy is it to use (as it'll be my first cutter)?
Thanks!

SX-15 is a good one to start of with. Though 300L seems high to me.Being this is an older model you should find one cheaper on E-Bay. Works good with windows.never tried it with a Mac.

Ok cheers, it was actually an eBay auction but I'll hold off for something a little cheaper.
Thanks!

The roland SX-15 is a good little stater cutter, & portable if wanting to do flea markets and such. the cutting limitations are 13.3" wide x 39" long. I started with this cutter & then moved up to a 24" cutter when the sign portion of our biz took off. I've cut regular vinyl, Thermoflex Plus (heat transfer vinyl) & even reflective vinyl once I changed the blade to a 60 degree one. Mine still works just as well, & i've had it for years. Just my opinion, buy a name brand cutter, & stay away from the chinese knockoffs, some have success with them, & some do not. You get what you pay for. Just my .02

Thanks a lot for the responses.

But as far as the price goes–what would you say is the max you'd pay for a 2nd hand SX-15?

You can buy them new for around $700-800 just keep checking the distributors. The SX is an older model too ,but $300-400 for one in good shape, & based on how mine has performed, I'd do it. At some point you will realize a larger cutter is needed, so keep that in mind. I went from cutting a 39" max ro doing 10+ ft. decals with my larger Roland.
