I purchased a roland gx24 and have installed properly. I am having problems with the plug in for Corel 13. I have installed this directly from the Roland cd. When I open Corel, I do not see the plug in. What is going on? I want to be able to go to my design i am working on and open it directly in Roland Cut Studio. I have seen this done before. Can any one help?
I think the Corel plug-in is just so that you can send your cutting jobs from Corel directly to the cutter. I'm using Stika though, but I think this would be the same. I even did not install the Cut Studio. I just open corel, do some 1 color outline (hairline only) artwork, then hit Print and choose my Stika cutter from the list of printers. You can even "print preview".
The instructions aren't the most obvious I've ever seen but they do work if you follow them 'to the t'. You need to go into the menu and drag the plug in to the side of the screen, stop, then place it on the side bar. Kinda weird but it does work if you do EXACTLY what the instructions say...
i use the 'plug-in' for illustrator and byron is right if it's just a plug-in you are limited to what you can do i.e.: add registration marks, select what will be sent to the cutter etc. it's not the stand alone program. you do all your designing/editing within corel draw.
ted is right when it comes to installing the plug-in software. do exactly what the instructs say. i had a problem after upgrading computers and had forgot to install EVERYTHING that was supposed to be installed and went crazy for like a week, till i redid it the right way.
to view the plugin in illustrator i have to go to window>cutstudio plugin. i don't know what it would be under in corel. -good luck.
oh yeah don't bother emailing roland with your problem they'll never get back to you. (just my experience).
Is your version of Corel Draw an OEM or teacher/student version? If so, they don't have the visual basic run time tools needed to run the plug in. I went through the same thing with my Graphtec cutter till I went and bought a "retail" version and then everything worked fine. By the way, you access the plugin by clicking on the little rocket looking icon at the top of the window. Good luck.

Terry,
Where did you get your "retail" version of CorelDraw and did you get X3? I've heard X4 doesn't work with the Roland GX-24 Cut Studio software. I know you have the Graphtec, but does anyone know if this is still true? I'm considering getting the Roland GX-24 with the Twill Stitch Pro but if I can't get the right CorelDraw software to work with it, I don't know.

Karen, if you can only get X4, you can still use it. The plug in may or may not work, I can't say for certain since I have X3... All the plug in does is take whatever vectors you have on the screen and jump/open Cut Studio containing them.
You can always export your files as Adobe Illustrator .AI files and then import them into Cut Studio. The only caveat is when you do the export, you have to save them as .AI version 8 or older files since that's what Cut Studio will recognize. I believe the same thing works for .EPS files but I'm not sure about what version you would have to save them as.
This is a discussion about Roland gx24 plug in installed but not working that was posted in the Vinyl Cutters (Plotters) and Transfers section of the forums.
