Default Vinyl Cutter newbie question

Hello all trust you are all well.

I have recently just purchased a vinyl cutter and heat press, but need some help please.

1. Do vinyl cutters cut ink jet transfer paper? I have tryed on mine many times but it just screws up the paper.

2. Do I need a special vinyl if not ?

3. If I do need vinyl how do i print my designs onto vinyl as they are many different colours? and from what I have seen vinyl is only 1 colour?

Thanks

First off, what kind of cutter did you purchase? It will cut ink jet transfer paper but you need a cutter with an optical eye to contour cut (cut around a printed graphic). You have to adjust the blade depth and pressure perfectly to cut through the transfer but not the backing paper.

Thanks for ther reply !

I have a Pcut 630 cutter and the paper I used was Epson transfer paper.

I did try and cut the paper seems to thin for the machine it just sucks it and makes a mess of the paper. I have wasted 20x sheets already.

I think that your cutter is the problem, you need a cutter with contour cutting capabilities. The Roland or Laser Point do that. Goodluck

nick is correct...you need some sort of registration system..the Roland GX24 and GCC Puma III have optic eye registration system. I am told the US Cutter Laser Point can do contour cutting but you have to do some sort of manual/software manipulation. I have not used, nor seen the Laser Point in action . So I will defer to those who know or have used it.

In trying to contour cut, you can do so with opaque paper and maybe with some other paper..but you do need a sort of backing sheet for the transfer so the cutter will just cut the top layer...not the backing sheet

Yup you'll need a cutter with an optical eye or a laserpoint to contour cut.

contour cutting is cutting around an image...in context for transfers...it is using your vinyl cutter...that has an optic eye or other registration systems...to cut out the parts of a bitmap that you don't want. here is a link to a youtube video on this

Don't believe it is a copyright violation IF you do not sell....To copy to show is okay...Or so I have been told...This image/video has been around for over a year and shown at several shows...even in Los Angeles area...

Well its not a "crappy cutter" it just doesn't have the features you need to do what you want to do.

There is a way to contour cut image without regmarks for optical camera on cutter...
I heard ain't easy but you basically print on let say 8.5x11 material centered, than you make a cut outline of what you wanna cut and feed it in your cutter...
there will be tweaking at first to know how far to put in, consumption for over cuts ect.

Its possible if you got some time to play with it
