Default Newbie Question!

Im wanting to design a stripe decal for my truck that follows the body lines of the truck and have my friend use his plotter to cut it out for me. I took some fine line tape and outlined on the truck what the stripe is going to look like but it has curves in it that follow the body line, how to I get the exact shape and dimensions of the stripe on the computer so when I cut it out it matches the body lines exactly? Im afraid if I try to free hand it on the computer I will be wasting alot of vinyl lol Thanks in advance for any help this looks like a really cool forum

If your friend has a cutter he just might have the sofware that is used for what you want. It involves measuring the surface where the stripe is going taking into account the contour of the truck. The area coverd may be 3 feet flat but with a contour it may add an inch to the vinyl. So when it is applid it cover the exact area you want. Hope I am clear on this. Others will pop in and add to in I am sure. Lou

How thick of a line is it? Like listed above if it is mostly flat you could take measurements and take a picture and use it as a template.
What software is he using?

It's very simple to do. Take a completely straight picture of the truck from the side. Measure the truck from say headlight to taillight, then take to picture into your friend's design software and crop the picture from where you did the measurements, then resize the picture to your exact dimensions.

Voila, you've got a perfect template of your vehicle and you're gonna see exactly what the decal will look like on it.
