I am having a problem when doing vinyl letters and I cannot figure out why
Can someone maybe help?
I have the gx 24 and the down force is set to 190 (which seems high to me)
the pen force is 0 or 1
It is avery and lg sign vinyl and the test circle cuts fine everytime.
Any ideas on why it keeps messing up, it is taking forever to do the simplest one color signs. just trying to keep the letters down and the bubbles out.
Re: vinyl letters peel up with the vinyl? please help
I'd say you're using too much pressure. I've found the core for most hard to weed lettering to be:
1. Too much or too little pressure. You want it to slightly mark the backing paper, but don't want to score it to the point where folding it will cause it to tear.
2. Dull/damaged blade. I actually just replaced mine and am surprised at how easy it is to weed some smaller lettering again, customer wanted some Algerian via Ecofilm and I Thought I was going to be shooting myself in the head before it was finished, but it weeded very nicely, both times that I had to weed it (forgot to mirror it! doh!).
3. Cutter needs offset corrected.
4. Too small of a font (I try to stay above at least 1/16" height whenever possible).
Depending on what you're doing, it may be best to apply the vinyl unweeded to your substrate then weed after it's on. The substrate should give better adhesion than the wax paper and will allow you to weed the smaller letters better. Had to do some small lettering on some foamboard awhile back and this method saved me countless hours of frustration. Also, sometimes people recommend a 60 degree blade over a 45 for different types of vinyls, might be another thing to investigate.

Thanks Joe
I might try a new blade, I have tried the different forces but I wouldn't think the blade would go bad that quickly, I have not used it that much really

Im not sure on the Roland how to lower the speed sorry . I just cut some small letters pressure at 160 and speed at 200 when doing big letters speed at 375 or 400 with no problem.

The problem I am having is it doesn't matter what fon or how big, it is the same problem. I go to weed and the letters come up with the vinyl
I have to get a new blade and see if that helps because the test is always perfect

Chris so the vinyl is not peeling up while it is cutting? I don't know how much sign vinyl you have cut/weeded but it's nothing like weeding heatpress vinyl.
Re: vinyl letters peel up with the vinyl? please help
I have done quite a few signs, I wish it was like heat vinyl
when I cut the test circle it is great, then I cut the vinyl at different force and it always peels off the backing with the scrap vinyl and takes forever to do anything because you have to hold down each letter while weeding.'
This is starting to get ridiculous

It sounds like your cuts aren't closing completely, adjust your knife offset.
