Default Anyone Do Car Window Tinting?

My husband and his friend are thinking about getting into auto window tinting. Is this a good side business to get into? Just curious to know if it's worth the time and money. Thanks!

Use to do window tinting for a local dealership in West Texas. At that time we use to cut film by hand to fit the window. But since then new software has come along where you can use a plotter to make these cuts which could save alot of time.

Once you get the hang of laying the film down on the glass .. . it gets easier everytime. Find some friends that are willing to be guinea pigs and tint their cars from start to finish and what I mean by that is removing existing tint . . . scraping the glue residue off, cleaning the glass . . . laying the new film. . .etc.

It is a pretty cool process if you husband is the type to see his work when its all said and done.

Wow..I could not imagine having to cut by hand! Yes the new software should really simplify the process. I really think my husband would enjoy this. He is a car fanatic anyway. His likes to take old engines apart and put them back together. He has a lot of patience when it comes to working on cars that why I thought this would be a good side business for him to get into. Anybody else have any thoughts or suggestions for him?

Cutting is by far the easiest and fastest part. Getting it onto the window cleanly is the hard part that takes years of practice.

I'd say it took me about 100 cars before I started turning out good work and another 100 before I did good work on a consistent basis.

It's a large start-up investment, a large learning curve, and like everything else competition is going up and prices are going down while material cost is going up!

But if you have a passion for detail orientated work and the patience of a saint, window tinting is for you. I love my work, but at the same time I'm now making tshirts and back in college!

I have tested TintTek 20/20 successfully with the cutters/ plotters we offer, and so far, the feedback from customers is good.
