Hi,
I have downloaded inkscape to have a play around with, I can type in some basic text into a new document in Inkscape and then File>Print and select my Graphtec and have it cut the text no problem.
However If i do this same text in Illi, then save the text as a .svg file, when I open the .svg file in Inkscape and select File>print it wont cut, cutter just makes a little wirr (the fan starting) then does nothing.
What do I need to do here?
I did read somewhere about changing the command to HP-GL but have tried this and it doesnt like it, whenever I select print from the file menu it prompts me to change the command back to GPGL.
I feel like im doing something very basic wrong here....
You can try to look at the xml code with the build-in or an external xml editor.
Have you tried to post the question - accompanied by some not working sample svg file - in Inkscape Forum?
If you have a small sample, you can also try to mail it to me (click my profile), and i will see if I can pinpoint the problem, but I have no cutting plotter to test it on.
Surly it cant be that complicated? I thought i must just have a setting wrong somewhere? All ive done is type a H into a new document in Illi, saved it as .svg then opened it in Inkscape and tried to print, I have created any masterpiece or anything, would that make a difference?
It is easy to read and understand SVG code. But sometimes it is messed up (not from Inkscape) in a way that can make it confusing to read.
Have you downloaded the plain version 0.46 or from the development snaphots?
I will recommend the development version, some bad bugs have been fixed and many new features have been introduced.
As you try using HPGL, I certainly think you should be using the development version.
I had been misreading your post when I answered first. I can see now, that the problem could be a font that Adobe can vectorize, but Inkscape can not?
Try to convert the text object to path before you send the output to the plotter.
Im using standard build 0.46, cant find anything on inkscape developmental when i googled it, do you have a site i can download it from?
Ive tried a few different fonts and none will cut when imported, however they will all cut when typed directly into Inkscape. weird
The snapshot download is here (for Windows). You can try the latest version. Don't try one of those taking up only ~ 6 MB, they are version that didn't compile on Windows.
Received the file. The text has been vectorized. Adobe uses an s (shorthand smooth) command, that Inkscape don't use, but it is rendered ok on screen, maybe the problem is in conversion to plotter format. what output format are you sending to the cutter?
If I scale it up 200% and down 50% (probably any transform followed by it's inverse), the s command is replaced with a c command.
Try the same and see if the cutter will accept it.
