Default Cricut mats?

Has anyone tried using the cricut cutting mats in their vinyl cutters? My wife likes scrapbooking and I'm trying to avoid paying for a $300 cricut machine here. LOL

I was just wondering if anyone tried it or thinks it would work out ok? They're sticky so you can lay cardstock on them to cut your designs.

Thanks!

It will work. I don't know if you want to use a vinyl blade for cutting paper, but the basic principal is the same. The paper would be the "vinyl" and the mat would be the backing. Set your blade depth, downforce, offset and speed accordingly.

The CraftROBO Pro is Graphtec's CE3000 series cutter on a 15" platform that they marketed as a scrapbooking tool, but it's built just like all the other CE3000. It doesn't know the difference if I'm cutting vinyl or paper.

I just wasnt sure if the mat would work in the cutter or not. Thanks, I'll be buying some mats soon, and will try to remember to report back as to my results with it!

I don't know how the Cricut mats are laid out, but the one's from Graphtec have about 1/2" down each side that has no adhesive on them. This is where you would set your rollers. If the Cricut mats have adhesive across the entire surface, you may have a problem.

The Graphtec sheets will work in any cutter and you can get a pair of the Graphtec OEM sheets here:
Consumables
The CraftROBO Pro sheets are larger than the CraftROBO (non-Pro).
I like the OEM sheets better than any of the aftermarket stuff I've used. The adhesive on the aftermarket stuff is realy agressive and I've had problems with the paper tearing on some of the more delicate designs. The Graphtec mats seem to hold fine and realease clean.

Hey thanks again! I'll remember to look at that when I go to pick up the cricut mats. If they're adhesive all the way across, I'll go back to that link!

the widest cricut mat you can get is 12 inches, so if your using a 12 inch cricut mat and a 12 inch piece of card stock you should be all set as far the sticky is concerned. The cricut is a nice machine but the cartridges for it can be pricey, on the other hand go to an Archivers or similar craft store and get her a "slice" I got it a few weeks ago, its a portable cutter, the cartridges are half the price and the the cutting mat is GLASS. its a cool little machine... Its great for cards and scrapbooking etc. I think i paid 150 for it or something like that. Cant cut as large as the cricut but its still cool...lol.
