Default Getting skull ready for vinyl cutter

I have a scull image that I need to get ready to cut in vinyl to be placed on a black leather jacket. The problem I think i'm having is that if the image gets cut what part do I need to cut the white outline or the black outline? If I cut the white i get the proper face part but the flames out the top are not right. I will post an image soon as i can figure out how to.
Pat

What I do when I confuse myself on what to cut, is I draw a box around the graphic and fill it with whatever my substrate's color is (in this case black, since it's a black jacket). More than likely you'll want to contour cut the white parts only, which can take awhile to weed, but it all depends on the graphic. You'd probably want to print off the black rectangle with the skull graphic too to be sure you weed everything appropriately.

Thanks for the tip. I will see if I can do as your suggesting. Sorry Rodney about posting in the wrong forum. I thought it being a graphic it would go there. Here is the image i'm working with.

if you wish to keep the black as the image (black vinyl, white jacket), cut the black, ALL the black and weed the white.

if the image is white (white vinyl, black jacket) cut the white, ALL the white and weed the black.

If this is a two layer job, adjust your image so the white is a solid image that extends to just the inside edge of the outer black edge. I see some areas where the black outside area is not closed, you'll need to close these areas so the white is not hanging out there.
then cut the black and layer on top of the white.

printing a copy and having it on hand helps a lot when weeding. I pic the printed images on the wall by the weeding station for reference.

I have it done and on the Jacket. I will post a picture later. It sure did look good for a newby doing his first vinyl heat transfer. I have only had my cutter for 2 weeks now, and am having a blast.

Very nice. Is the black all cut out or is there some color ontop of the white?

The Black is all cut out. I used the spectra eco film plus. It is the one recommended for leathers, mesh, nylon and hard to do fabrics. I hopde this answers your question? I should poinjt out I have had the cutter two weeks but then had to wait another week to get it set up an get a part in the was broke. So really not much more than a week I have been using it. I even had to learn how to do vectoring in that week for the image to be able to be cut.
