The mylar backing on your vinyl protects your design while you press it onto your t-shirt. This means you need no additional things when pressing. Believe it or not, after you have pressed the design and remove the mylar backing, you can press directly onto the design without hurting it.......JB

I'd like to know once I have my design cut out do I need to put anything over the vinyl to press it onto a black t-shirt?
If your design is all one unit, you can just place it on top of the shirt and press. If you have say multiple letters, or objects being cut out individually, transfer paper needs to be used.
Peace Do I have to put a baking sheet over the design as I press it?
1.When you cut your vinyl out you should have the clear backing sheet stuck to your vinyl. Therefore you don't need the parchment paper/teflon sheet/baking sheet. I myself use the teflon sheet to repress after i pressed it once to give that matte finish..So no you don't have to.

The vinyl roles I have don't have the clear backing, they have a white paper backing that has lines and grids on it. Do you know what type of paper I should use? peace

That sounds like Oracal (a sign vinyl producer), it should have the name on it as well as the product code (IE: Oracal 651). If it is as I described, then it is not suitable for garment decoration.
There are a few other places, but I've only ever ordered from Imprintables for garment (their Eco-Film vinyl is good, especially when you get it from the overstock section!)
Ok it sounds like you do not have heat press vinyl, I could be wrong but I believe you just have regular vinyl, like for signs and such. You need heat press vinyl to use with a heat press to put on shirts

Thank you and I think you both saved me the headache of trying to figure out this, and messing up some shirts.. Peace

I absolutley agree, Don't think that's t-shirt vinyl..Also when you do get some make sure you mirror image it before you cut it, That was one of he mistakes i made when i was a newbie (well still am ) always learning something new. You can also try some sample sheets from Heat Applied transfer vinyl for t-shirt applications to start off, they sell t-shirt vinyl by the foot for about $2 something.. real good vinyl HPU is my favorite..
