Discuss the various aspects of heat pressed vinyl transfers. Popular and new types of vinyl media, suppliers, vinyl cutters /plotters, press times, quality, how to instructions and more can be found in this heat press sub forum.
If I have a shirt design which requires an image that is longer then my actual heat press, How would I press this? Would it be safe for me to overlap where I already pressed or will this burn or hurt the vinyl? Should I just try and get as close to the edge as possible? I am using Spectra Eco-film if that helps.
Re: Pressing an image larger then the press itself?
I don't know about the EcoFilm but with ThermoFlex Plus you can layer colors. I am sure this is probably true for your brand.
All you do is apply the first layer(background) as normal..if it is cold peel, let it cool, peel, then set up for the second layer.
In your case, if you only have one color this would still apply. You can press part of it, cold peel(or hot peel)...then position the other vinyl and press again.
It shouldn't affect the vinyl on there already. I mean it will heat it up, but once it cools, you can peel and it will ALL stay there on the shirt.
I have been wanting to try some of that EcoFilm..come on Imprintables, make a believer out of me..hehe

Re: Pressing an image larger then the press itself?
We have a 15" press, and I've pressed continuous designs that are 25" long, and wrap around the shirt. WIth Thermoflex Plus, it's perfectly safe to press one portion, move to the next portion, and so on, and then cold-peel the whole design. And yes, it's okay to overlap your pressings.

"Hi there, not trying to change the subject, but do you press one color over another? How does that affect the feel of the shirt?"
If all you are doing is two colors it doesn't make much difference. If you get into more than that you will notice a buildup, so what some people do is to cutout the bottom layers leaving a space where the additional layers go. Because of the shrinkage you get with vinyl this takes some practice so plan on a few practice shirts.
Re: Pressing an image larger then the press itself?
The shirt will be heavier the more vinyl applied. When you place one color over another your only covering such a small amount it really doesn't affect the feel. ...... JB

Re: Pressing an image larger then the press itself?
That's good info for vinyl people but I can't get it to work with sublimation ink. It leaves a dark line in the image between the 2 pressings. Anyone have success?

Re: Pressing an image larger then the press itself?
Thanks, I'm ordering a vinyl cutter today so I'll just have to play with it. Just like everything else, I'm sure it takes practice! When I got my heat press, I took a shirt that was torn, cut it into a bunch of smaller pieces, and just practiced pressign small things on each swatch until I figured it out. I got to see what it looked like on the actual tshirt material, but didn't waste 15 shirts.
Re: Pressing an image larger then the press itself?
I actually learned how to press multiple colors by researching this forum. Now I try to create designs that allow me to cut up the design and just pressing one part of the design at one time. Repeating the sequence until each color is pressed.
Yeah, once you go over 2 colors your tee starts to feel really heavy and the buildup is really noticeable.
