Default Craft robo and corel cut/plot help

Hello,
I am trying to figure out this thing.
I have a image I manipulated in corel x3.
Its a grim reaper.

I click on the application launcher and pick the cut/plot craft robo.
It brings up the cut/plot screen.
No help on it and I have no clue on what is what on it.

I want to be able to either cut it as a transfer or vinyl.

If anyone uses corel x3 and the craft robo cut/plot and can help me I greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark.

Is it a bitmap, vector, or did you create it from scratch in CorelDRAW?

If it's a bitmap you would need to create a cutting contour around your image. A really easy way to do that is to use Powertrace to trace your bitmap, then once it's done weld everything together into one shape. You may need to manipulate it a little. Then you can cut it as a printed transfer (hit Registration Marks instead of Cut/Plot to set up your registration marks, then print, then cut it).

If it's a vector and you want to cut it with vinyl, then you would hit cut/plot, then when Cutting Master 2 comes up, you would go to the color/layer tab (it will show the different colors in your design), then make sure only one color is checked at a time, load the appropriate color of vinyl, then cut it, doing the same thing for each color.

I HIGHLY suggest you go over the Cutting Master 2 help file (The Cut/Plot will open when you hit Cut/Plot in Corel, but another little window opens, which is the Cutting Master 2 plugin itself. Go to that window and go to Help.). That will answer many of your questions.

Good luck!

Thanks Chani.
DIdn't think of the CM2 help file. Was trying to find it in the cut/plot window.

What I really am looking to do is contour cut my heat transfers. I have uscutter vinyl cutter and use that for those jobs. However I won't put off the idea of the robo but its main purpose is to contour cut the heat transfers.

Is that any different that cutting the vinyl stuff.

Thanks
Mark

The help file does help :-)

I am confused on this part tho
(from the help file)

Outputting the Printed Parts of the Design
To output the printed parts of the design:

1. Hide the layer or layers which contain the contour cuts.

2. Make sure the layer or layers which contain the printed part of the design are visible.

I don't understand what they mean in number 1. I have a image of freddy krueger in cartoon form. I want to print it out and have the robo cut around it.

I must be missing something here but not sure what.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark.

It's only necessary to do that if you're using layers to seperate your cut contours. I admit, I don't do that.

What I do is create my cutting contour and then make sure it has no fill or outline (so you can only view it in wireframe view), so it doesn't print. Then when I go to cut, I select the "No Fill" color on the color tab in Cutting Master 2, and make sure I deselect any other colors that might be part of the design.

Hope that helps!

Chani

Thanks again. !
Just one last thing and I think I am ready.
The cutting countour line is what ? Like a a line you draw around the image ?
If thats right then whats the best way to make that contour line and how do you get it close to the image w/o being to far from it or to close.

Thanks for all the help.

Mark

Yes, that's the cut "line".

You can create it yourself in Corel manually, or you can create it the way I outlined above.

Then you can cut it as a printed transfer (hit Registration Marks instead of Cut/Plot to set up your registration marks, then print, then cut it).
Then if you'd like, you can create a contour (the Contour tool in Corel) to bring it out from your graphic a little for transfers for lights, or in a little for opaque transfers or stickers. Be sure to break the Contour Group apart (in the Arrange menu) and delete the original.

For vector graphics that you'd like to print and cut, you can copy everything, weld it all together, and give the result no fill or outline. Then you can print and cut it.

Don't forget to add your registration marks! They'll need to be set in a little from the edges of your page for the machine to read them properly. And a little more than two inches from the top of your sheet.

I use 8.5 X 11 sheets with a registration mark rectangle of 7.5" X 10" centered on the page at 4.25 X 5.5, which brings the reg marks to 1/2" of the edge. It's late and perhaps I'm not comprehending something. But I don't understand why the 'two inches from the top of the sheet' suggestion?

I don't have a CraftROBO CC200-20, so perhaps it's a little different for that machine, but on the larger CE5000 series plotters you need to leave a little more than two inches at the top edge of your page because of the distance from the pinch rollers to the blade. Any closer and the sheet would fall out of your plotter, but the machine does know that, so you'll get a registration mark read error if you put it any closer than that.

So what I say about two inches from the top of your sheet may not apply with the smaller CraftROBO.
