Got the new COPAM to the point of cutting last night. I must say, being brand new to the vinyl cutting world, it was all a bit of a challenge. I think we finally did get the blade depth set pretty well, but it is still tearing the vinyl as it cuts. We lowered the speed to 30, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?
When you say tearing the vinyl as it cuts, do you mean the backing? If it is cutting the backing it indicates the down pressure is too high. If it is tearing the vinyl itself the pressure may be to low but this usually indicates a dull blade or possibly the blade is extended out of the blade holder too far. Does it tear on simple letters or just on complicated designs and what kind of vinyl are you using?
If it is tearing through the vinyl and the backing, the blade is sticking out too far fromt he blade holder. Adjust it some more and put the speed back to 60 or so, then try again.
It is just tearing the vinyl, like it is not cutting clean, the backing is staying in tact. I am using the vinyl from US Cutter, the sample package, I was told it was both a t-shirt and sign vinyl??
Ummmm.....nope it is just sign vinyl and honestly from what I've heard not very good sign vinyl. I have never used it myself just from some of the posts I read, I heard it wasn't very good.
Do yourself a favor, order a roll of Oracal sign vinyl and go to Transfer Papers and Sublimation Inks at Joto and call them up or email them and get a sample of their multicut. You will have ALOT LESS HEADACHES.
We do not sell heat press transfer vinyl at this time, and the sample pack you got is a 3 year outdoor, 7 year indoor use vinyl. It is made by BGS, which is a name brand in China, but not very popular in the states and it sells for a fraction of what the name brand vinyls go for.
Still make sure that the blade is barely sticking out, and maybe make sure there isn't any adhesive built up on the cutting tip.
I just got mine last night and have everything set up. the blade seems to be perfect. The force is set at 70. 90 was too strong. I did the self evaluation and it cut perfectly. What I am having trouble with is communication between the computer and cutter. What should the cutters screen show so that it will accept files? I'll check to make sure it's set up under LPT1 since I'm using the 25 pin parallel connector.
Going by what time your message was posted, you WERE up late. I had trouble with the communication at first also. I tried using the USB to USB but got nothing. I switched to the parallel ports and it worked right away. I am learning a little more every day. Good luck with yours.

Actually, getting to bed around 1:15 or so is early for me. Usually I'm up until 3, and on the weekends I rarely go to bed until Sunday night. With the kids out of school they now stay up later, which delays me getting to the homework.
Yes, going by some other posts here, everyone said they had trouble with the USB so I didn't even bother with that. The problem I had was the com1 was selected when I had the parallel cable connected. As soon as I switched it, it was perfect.

The Copam should display Function Select when it is ready to cut. The Parallel connection is more stable than the USB because there are less drivers involved and therefor less variables for conflict, so it is good you got the LPT1 connection established.

Yep, everything is fine and I got the blade set perfect the first time. One question I have regarding the SignCut software. I loaded it on the desktop I use for my business. I'd also like to load it on my laptop to use when I go to local business expos or other events. Can I do this, and if so, will there be another charge?
They will allow you to transfer the software to another computer up to 5 times, but yes, you can only have it loaded on one computer at a time unless you buy another copy.
It's to bad that there is no Dongle. I like my software for that reason. The dongle allows me the freedom to move from desk top to lap top with no issue. ...... JB
