Default Slightly offtopic: CraftRobo and GX24

So we have GX24 arriving next week and its main job is going to be cutting twill and possible some simple single color apparel vinyl.

My wife saw the CraftRobo in a store here and wanted to know if the GX24 could duplicate the same kinds of neat paper craft cuts she saw the CraftRobo do.

I've been searching on Google and can't find answer so maybe some one here will be able to help.

1. Can the CraftRobo gsd files be converted to something the GX24 can use?

2. Will the 60 degree carbide blade be strong enough to score/cut cardstock and paper? Is there going to be a significant reduction in lifespan of the blade?

3. Has anyone seen a site that has papercraft templates and files for the GX24 natively? Or the Stika series for that matter?

I've wondered the same thing and done the same searches. I have the GX 24 and thought that it would be grand to be able to do these things but can't find any answers. JoDee

I'm sure if you used a carrier sheet the GX 24 would cut all the designs you woud need. .... JB

Hi, could you use a cricut mat? I use them all the time in my craft cutter (a Klic-N-Kut--basically a vinyl cutter geared towards crafting). I've even resprayed them with krylon easy tack spray when they lose their stickiness. You can sometimes get these for 50% off at Michaels or Joanns with coupons--depending on the individual store they may or may not accept the coupons for these mats. I cut cardstock all the time with this. Others use quilting mats and even those thin flexible vegetable cutting mats. Just spray with the easy tack (shake can really well, spray outside, and let dry for a few hours. If too sticky, you can blot it with a clean t-shirt to add a little lint)

As far as converting GSDs, it's not super easy because it's a proprietary format. Many download the robomaster program (it's free), open the files, ungroup, thicken lines and convert to black color. Do a print screen, open that image into Paint. Fill with black, copy these objects into your cutter's software and then trace it. Also, a crafter has made a conversion utility: GSD Conversion. A few other utilities are out there too. Just do a search. Why not try it for cardstock? I use a 60 degree blade for cardstock. Wish I could tell you more about files. What formats are native for the GX24 or the sticka? There are a lot of wpc and ai files out there for crafting could you use those? Just do a search.

HTH,
Kaylene

I spent a bit more time hunting for conversion utilities but didn't find any that fit the bill. Instead I found jpgs of some designs I wanted to try so I just dropped them into Illustrator and ran LiveTrace. Now I'm cleaning up the traced files with single lines and when I'm done, I'll try my cuts with a 60 degree carbide blade on cardstock on the CraftRobo carrier sheet.

One of the biggest sites listed wants new users to wait for 30 days before being given access to the downloadable files and you still have to ask so it is not like it is a timed thing.
