I have a US Cutter and love mine, it is the refine 721 and it does not contour cut. That being said, I'd go over to their website at Welcome to the Frontpage and check out their forums about that particular cutter.
It is a contour cutter, it's just a manual contour cutter, as opposed to automatic. There are 2 software packages that I know work with their cutter for contour, sign blazer and sign cut.
I haven't used nor seen either one of them do the contour cut, but people on US Cutter's forums have used them and say it's not real hard once you learn it. Again I have no idea about it.
The cutter David has does not contour cut ,but the one in the link will. I have heard great things about UScutter products and their customer support. ...... JB
i bought one of the smallest they sell and it works... i use it to cut stickers at shows because its so easy to move. almost everybody that has got one has had problems using the usb connection, myself included, if you get the usb to serial converter before you get the cutter and install it then when you get the cutter and hook it up you wont be posting for help to get it working... also any cutter will contour cut if you take the time to learn how to do it.. its the ones with an optical eye that makes life fun... m2c Don
Is it easy to learn how to cut? because ive been doing screen printing for a while and would like to be able to provide decals and such to my customers...
Start by finding what the other shops in the area selling for use this as a guide to decide. i sell stickers and cut vinyl by the foot. if the design is in my book and i don't need to do any extra layout and it fits in to a square foot its 6 bucks lettering the same
if you only want a 3 x 3 inch sticker its 6 bucks 1 up only if it goes 3 inches in to the next foot of vinyl its 12 bucks.
this is on the cheap side in a lot of places. i am a mobile shop and do a lot of events and do 95% of the work on the spot. nothing pre cut. a lot of shops in the towns i go to are happy to see me go. but to be fair to those shops with lots of overhead you should try to be competitive and not cut the price to bad
i sell for the price because i compete against mail order and other traveling sellers price point.
if you need to put time in on the design then charge for your time and if they want you to put it on charge for that too.
lol
which size is better to start off with should i go big or small? i have the space for the big but im curious to know which one would be best for me to get and not have any regrets?
in 10 years there has bin nothing i could not do on my 24" cutter including a banner i made once that was 15' x 25' that said GYM. these days i use almost nothing but 15" vinyl its hard to keep 24" i end up with to much waste m2c don
