OK.. So I finally saved up 2k to buy a roland GX 24. (yes Josh you will be getting a call) However, an excellent deal has made itself available to me to purchase a powerful desktop new computer. I could use the roland, like most of us to keep myself from having to outsource that and expand my business. I have been debating all day... The new computer would free up alot of space as I currently have my "Shtuff" all over the place. My wife is a big supporter of this idea. The more i think about it the more i think this is the way to go... So ultimatly this is just one of those useless posts. I am sure that alot of you can relate $$ is not the easiest to come by and I have been saving for a while. I suppose in the end I will get the desktop and continue to outsource. I just thought i would share this real world experience from a regular joe. Just another squirrel trying to get a nut. WWLD? (What Would Lou Do?)
I'm a proponent of by the new cutter. This will allow you to generate more cash. Then you can buy a new computer and anything else you want. I say buy your tools that will generate cash first. ..... JB
Any computer worth $2k will be worth $600 in a few months. Dell regularly runs deals for around $500-600, about once a month, and they're always awesome deals. Last one I picked up was about 3 months ago, $580 shipped, dual core 2.2ghz (or 2.4, can't recall), Vista (I could've/should've gotten XP, but this was for personal gaming purposes anyway), 2 gig RAM, 300 gig SATA HD. It also came with a 22" widescreen LCD. You can't build em for that cheap, let alone have customer service behind it (I repair my own stuff anyway, but many are not that capable). So weigh "awesome computer deals" carefully, and don't go spending too much on a new CPU/GPU/etc, when it will be half that cost in a month's time.
Also, I believe in JB's logic, buy the item that is needed to generate more money first, then go after the other things later. Reminds me of a UK episode of Kitchen Nightmare's I saw where the guy had a license plate "#1CHEF" and a spiffy sports car, but his restaurant was in the crapper.

Your funny... I have a Roland.. but not always.. I had a cheaper cutter $600 range and it made me about $5K in a year. Then the Roland showed up at my door step. It does what the other one did but a lot quieter. I have yet to use all the features (6 months later) So what would Lou do.. buy a cheaper cutter (see Search Results for " heatpressvinyls.com ") Or check out the copam 2500. Then later when you made more money.. sell the cutter and buy a better one. But what do I know.. LOL
like sai, if space(hard drive) is your problem, just get external storage (i saw one the other day 500gb for $100) thats something you wanna do anyways cause computers can crash anytime and along with them your art

I know I'm not Lou, but I myself would build me a new puter for around $400.00 and buy me a graphtec from US Cutter as they have them for $1199.00 and that still leaves you $400.00 to spend on something else.
what's going to make your business move forward most efficiently(make the most money)...? What is wrong with your current comp...
storage... performance... reliability...? a 750gb hard drive is 120 bucks at newegg.com... I'm about to build a monster comp for around a 1000 bucks... it will do everything anyone could need for graphics... if you need help with parts choices let me know... its pretty easy to build you own... good luck...

Thanks.. this is the plan.. Ill be calling Josh in the AM.
You could build a decent computer for under $500. I would get the Roland because having one is unbelievable. The freedom it allows you is priceless. Buy the Roland, then take what's left and build a decent computer until you can save up for a better one. That's what I'd do.
WOW! So I just got my Roland GX-24 and it is strait Sexy. The machine is a beast not too big, not too small. I got it out of the box had it set up and software installed in 15-20 min (real time) and had my first Opaque transfer cut in the next 15 min or so. The software is VERY easy to use. It is insane. I am so surprized at how quiet it is. Truly remarkable. I made a sample and brought it with me to all my stops today while running errands "This is just a sample of what my new machine can do" 2 jobs later I can see this machine will certainly be an asset to my business and the better decision between this and the computer. Josh was great to work with and special offer to forum members is an EXCEPTIONAL savings. THANKS JOSH and IMPRINTABLES WAREHOUSE. Excellent service. fast shipping.
Now.. I need some carrier sheet/paper/roll. Any suggestions?
