Discuss the various aspects of heat pressed vinyl transfers. Popular and new types of vinyl media, suppliers, vinyl cutters /plotters, press times, quality, how to instructions and more can be found in this heat press sub forum.
I have done some warm-ups for a volleyball team and a softball team. I used item #7702 (hook jacket) from Badger Sportswear and thermoflex from Stahls. The jacket is 100% brushed tricot polyester. I used transfers on the back and put the name on the front withe the Thermoflex. I told the customers not to dry it on high heat. On the volleyball team, the coach called and said his name was coming off, so I repressed it and so far so good. Now I delivered the softball ones last week and this week the coach e-mails and says some of the girls names are coming off. I can't figure out why. I used the right time and pressure and my heat press has given me no other problems and is only 1 1/2 years old, so I don't think it is the press. Any suggestions? If I can't fix this, I could lose a whole new school account. Thanks.
The only time I had this problem was when I used a thin font and the vinyl did not have enough surface area to hold the letters on. It wasnt the vinyl but the shirt that was coming apart, that lint you get in the dryer comes from somewhere. My solution was to add an outline of a contrasting color. That way they get the letters they want but the vinyl has enough area to hold onto. There is one other thing you may be experiencing. When you peel the backing off you sometimes lift the edges of the vinyl. It is a good idea to repress the vinyl after you peel it just to reseal the edges. I use a teflon sheet and only press for about 5 seconds.

If the lettering was that small, how do you get the outline on there? Mine was not that small, but about 1" high and most were about 5" long. So I don't think that was it, but maybe.
it may be the fabric - i wasn't familiar with these jackets so looked them up and the description says 100% Brushed tricot polyester
it's not something i've ever used thermoflex on - you might want to call your supplier (or beacon, they seem to be very knowledgeable about it) and find out if the thermo is compatible with this material or if a different product is required.

There are a couple things, the outline is to increase the width of the font before you cut, the other is to pr-press your garment to extract any dampness that may be in the garment, it dries it out to get a good adhesion of the vinyl, and third the vinyl you are useing may not be compatable for that particular material.
I do prepress and it says that the thermofilm can be used on 100% polyester.
On other note, when you do an outline, you have to cut one color, press it and then line up the other color and press again? Isn't it very hard to get the letters to line up exactly? I would like to try 2 color, but have been leary of it because of that.
The degree of difficulty will depend upon the thickness of the outline and the amount of shrinkage you get when you press the first color. If you try to do a thin .02 outline you could be doomed from the start but a .2 outline should be no problem. When you press the first layer it usually shrinks so you may need to stretch it back out a little before pressing the second. This is where the vinyls with the adhesive back work better than the ones without it because once you stretch it you can stick the second color on and it will hold in place. It's not as difficult as you might think and it can add a lot to a simple name.
Stahls material is not Thermoflex-they are totally different, I have heard of Stahls falling off...I ONLY use Thermoflex-if it is used correctly...It wont come off. Thermoflex is made by Specialty Materials.
Thanks...I picked up on that right away!!! Stahls vinyl shouldnt be called "Thermofilm" Should be "ThermoThick" I have heard a lot of those types of complaints! I should thank them though...I picked up an entire league whose #s fell off last year-I really like Thermoflex-I have tried to get it off-no way-unless you use a chemical.
Lawson sells Thermoflex. That's where I get it. It says peel cool, I peel hot w/ no problems at all...I also dont repress.

Thermofilm or shoild I say thermocrap. I have used it, but not with good results. I replaced a few garments because of this inferior vinyl. ..... JB
oh.....definitely make room in the trash bin for that stuff......
for several years i've successfully used both thermoflex (the real thing ) and multi-cut. i get thermoflex from beacon and multi-cut from joto. i prefer the multicut because it comes on a wider roll and i end up with less waste, but the feel of the finished product is identical with both.
