Just to note, Oracal is a major manufacturer for sign vinyl. There are a few different types of vinyl, so make sure you get the right one for your application! Imprintables should be able to send you out some sample rolls of their heat press vinyl for shirts, I suggest calling and speaking with Josh Ellsworth, his information is available in the "Exclusive Discounts" section of these forums.
If you are looking into vinyl to apply to signs, vehicles, etc, you can usually contact the companies to get some sample rolls. Oracal is whom I primarily use (3164 for my Roland SP300V, however if you're only cutting and not printing, I suggest 651). A lot of people swear by 3M for wrapping vehicles. Avery has been getting a bad wrap (pardon the pun), however I've used their specialty films with little issues. FDC is another vinyl maker, heard very little about them, but what I have heard was good.
I wonder if many of the different heat transfer vinyls sold under different names are coming from the same factory or factories? Similar to all the different transfer papers.

well vinyl films don't come from the same manufacturer, the heavy hitter everyone seems to enjoy,, thermoflex made in europe, siser made in europe, and some from china. So there you have it.

Finally I get the supplier in China. This guy is not a manufacture, he is only a reseller. I Found him not thru internet. I went to China a month ago and I found there are several shops. 1 shop is selling glitter and flocks only. The second shop is selling the regular colors only. The third one is selling hologram colors only. Since I like to hologram colors so I bought from the third shop only. (it is cheaper compare to the other two) But I do think his product is VINYL but PVC. ( I am not really sure. tell me what do you think) but its also for tshirs. it cost me around 15 USD for 48 cm X 100 cm. including shipping cost from China to Indonesia. the only problem with this shop is they can not speak english luckly I have my wife who can speak little chinese.
