Default How to setup multi-layered thermoflex?

I'm trying to layer the design in the picture.

My first try at it I used the magic wand in photoshop, dragged the layer over to illustrator, then vectorized the layer. I did this for each color, as seen in the second image. Doing it this way things just didn't line up quite right.

So my other thought is doing the whole thing in red, then layering the blue on top of that, then the white on top of that. (picture 3)

Am I going about this right?

Your second idea is right. With the first, the vinyl may shrink a little and cause gaps and such.

You can print the red, print the white as a solid and then print the blue with cut outs for the stars.

I ended up doing the first layer in white, the whole skull. The second layer was the red parts & the third layer was the blue parts. It worked out pretty good.

The bottom inch got pressed with just the silicon sheet on top of it, instead of the backing + the silicon sheet, so that part isn't as shiny as the rest of it. I also didn't get it lined up perfectly, but I'm getting better.

I attached a picture of the design that I put on a piece of scrap t-shirt.

That was a good way to do the layering. The three color ended up as really only a two ply image

I will be watching to see if you get any good ideas from people. Can you tell me did you purchase a good vectorizing system. I need a good one and would like some recommendations. Also if you know how to vectorize things after scanning them and make them look as good as the pics I would appreciate advice.
