Default CAD Printing Article - May 2008 Printwear Magazine

There's a great article featured in the May '08 edition of Printwear Mag by Ted Stahl on CAD printing. I'm sure many of you will like the article and may possibly learn some other markets for using such materials. If you like this online mag, you may sign up from their website to receive it monthly.

May 2008 Printwear Magazine (Online Edition)
(CAD Print Article on pages 86-90.)

Also, the T-Shirtforums.com site is mentioned on page 88 of the article.

Enjoy!

Hello everyone this is my first post on here .. I recieved my new May 2008 PrintWear magazine today and read this great artical .. I signed up tonight so i could learn more about this precess .. I didn't see anywhere about what kind of Print/cutter was best for doing this .. I wanted to start a screen printing business but not sure i want to learn and buy all the halftone and rip software when this looks like a great way to get around all the mess of the silk screen precess .. I want to be able to do small t shirt orders and print stickers, magnets and other items .. Can someone tell me what is the best and cheapest printer/cutter to start out with I don't have a lot of money plus mostly i will be printing 12x12 or smaller t shirts, stickers and magnets Thanks for any help you can give me ...

Any solvent printer combined with an optic eye cutter would be an option.

The option that integrates the printer and cutter into one machine is the Roland Versacamm.

Hi Josh,

I'm in the process of buying the Roland GX-24 and I'm trying to find a good printer to match up with it.

Do they make a "solvent printer" that is 24" or smaller? What would be a good printer to match up with the GX-24?

I'm try to get the function of the SP-300V $10,995 US, without that price tag.

I also am interested in finding a good printer, cutter option in place of the versacamm because of the high cost of the versacamm, and the low volume I plan to start with. Anyone?

Hello Josh you seem to have the knowledge.
Why a solvent printer? I am looking to print full color on black t-shirts mostly. I have read about the versacamm, and using some special transfers that work good on black, and retain when stretched. Is the versacamm a solvent printer, I think I missed that part. So to print on vinyl you need a solvent printer? Or to print on the special paper for black t-shirts need a solvent printer. Please clarify for me as I think I am so close to understanding what I now may need. Also is there a DPI suggested for vinyl printing?

Thanks read it , I think I am going to have to go to a print show, or maybe a local print shop so I can see what the various concepts produce, and talk about durability issues. I like the cad, and epson inkjet transfer ideas the best for my start up business, but not sure exactly what the end product would look like. Says the vinyl will last long time of washing and use, anyone have knowledge about that?
