Discuss the various aspects of heat pressed vinyl transfers. Popular and new types of vinyl media, suppliers, vinyl cutters /plotters, press times, quality, how to instructions and more can be found in this heat press sub forum.
What type of heat transfers are you wanting to do? Inkjet transfers? Vinyl?
If you want to use inkjet transfers, the Roland GX-24 is the way to go for sure.
If you want to cut vinyl, you're going to need to vectorize your graphics, especially if they're more than one color. You can either buy a program to do it yourself (or download Inkscape for free and learn that) or you need to hire a service to vectorize your graphics.
For inkjet transfers, check this thread that I posted last night:

In CutStudio you need to resize your graphic once you import it, but if you resize it to the same dimensions as your original graphic, it will be at the same resolution.
You can then have the software create your cutting path automatically. You may need to clean it up a little if you have white in your design, but it's not too difficult.
Just read over that thread if you haven't already, and it should answer your questions.
There's another, much cheaper cutter that I need to try out this weekend that will also cut inkjet transfers, but I'm not quite sure how easy it is to work with yet or if the software will give you cutting paths automatically. But I'll definitely say that the Roland is well worth it if you're planning on doing a lot of contour cutting!
Then with that machine you can also cut vinyl (you need a vector program for that) and twill (again, you need vector information for vinyl or twill).

Good luck!
EXCELLENT! I will defenitly read up on that thread. Do you know where I can purchase this ROLAND GX 24? Many thanks for all your help!
The one that I have is from Imprintables Warehouse. They're one of our forum sponsors, and they have special deals for forums members. You can view their offers (and those of other forum sponsors) by clicking on the "View Offers" link to your left here and scrolling down toward the bottom.
There are other forum sponsors (as well as non-sponsors) that carry the GX-24. I honestly don't know who has the best price, but from what I've heard, you'll get the best support and training from Imprintables. Also, Josh Ellsworth (the guy you need to talk to at Imprintables) is a member here and visits the forums frequently.

I will look into buying from Imprintables, they seem to have reasonable prices! Thanks for your help!!
When you talk to josh have him tell you about the new software they are offering to customers at no charge called cadworks live. This will be a big help in designing garments. good luck. ..... JB
Cadworxlive is awesome I have been using it for about a week now, since it went live to everyone. They do not have a print and cut mode yet but they are suppose to be adding that. It is very easy to learn.
This is a discussion about Looking for Vinyl Cutter for heat transfers that was posted in the Vinyl Cutters (Plotters) and Transfers section of the forums.
