Default So do I need a carrier sheet?:S

When I'm cutting my Xpres cut vinyl will I need to use a carrier sheet? As i understand it a carrier sheet just holds stuff in place, and vinyl already has a sticky back layer to it so wont need this? Thanks for any help!

The sticky part is on the vinyl and you have to pull the backing paper off to stick the vinyl where you want it. The transfer tape holds it together after pulling off the back. Unless you want to place each piece by hand I would advise transfer tape.

Hi Mark,

No the xpres garment vinyls do not need carrier sheets, just cut and weed the excess off then place face down and press.

Freemane1 is referring to sign vinyl which does require application tape.

Vinyl has it's own carrier sheet built in. Carrier sheets are for items that don't have a backing.

I use my carrier sheet for scraps of vinyl that are too small to run through on theirown, or if I'm going to get close to one end or the other with my design (so it doesn't slip out).

Reviving this thread, as I have a similar question.

How can people determine what kind of heat-applied vinyl needs a carrier sheet and what kind does not?

I got confused about this when I went to the Great Garment Graphics seminar earlier this year.

The host pressed some of the Stahls' material without using a carrier sheet. Then with other materials, he used a carrier sheet.

Thanks...

i think the majority of them dont need carrier sheets, if you can get a look at them before you buy see if you can peel it (like you can a bumper sticker, front from back).

Vinyl comes with it's own carrier sheet. Carrier sheets are more for digital transfers that you want to contour cut.
