Discuss the various aspects of heat pressed vinyl transfers. Popular and new types of vinyl media, suppliers, vinyl cutters /plotters, press times, quality, how to instructions and more can be found in this heat press sub forum.
Yes, I read all the old posts I could find about printing over the zipper. I have a very small run for a bunch of hoodies and I'd like to try white vinyl and heat pressing the logo. Only it's supposed to go "over" the zipper in the front.
So, there were some suggestions in the older posts about splitting the graphic in half (where the zipper goes) and perhaps using a rubber mat to lift up the crucial area.
Any new ideas for doing these things? What's the brand new breakthrough I haven't heard about?
hey, I have a hoody i bought and the print was managed over the zipper because the fabric it self actually over lapped the zipper, maybe you should find a brand of hoodies made like this.
-- I create the vector design, find the mid point, then cut it in half IN THE SOFTWARE.
-- Then I separate the 2 halves, putting about 1/16"-1/8" space between the two halves.
-- Save the split file as an EPS. Then i send it to my cutter.
-- When i weed it, I just remove the piece of vinyl from the middle of the two halves. That space now accounts for my Zipper & the highest point of the raised fabric.
-- Zip up the hoodie & pre-press it.
-- Do NOT cut the vinyl in half! The middle space will allow you to align it up & down the zipper.
-- Press with a little extra force to allow the vinyl to get in the seams good.
-- Peel, cover with craft paper, and press again for good measure.

Thats it! ;-)
My God! You're a genius! I can't believe I didn't think of that. So simple, yet so practical. Oh, yes... Thanks!
Thanks, but I'm no genius! LOL! They say that Necessity is the mother of invention. And I needed an easier way to get it done. There you have it! . . . That's what I love about this forum: there are SO many ways to do any one thing. And the members here don't mind sharing. With as much as I've learned here, this is the least I can do! -- Good luck!
Aamon17, on your hoodies-are the zippers plastic or metal? If they are plastic-do you have melting problems or is there fabric that covers the zipper to protect it?? I love your idea though.

Both . . . The plastic zippers haven't come close to melting on me. It's covered by the overlayed fabric, by the mylar carrier sheet, & teflon/parchment if you're nervous about it. I'm pressing @ 330 degrees for 10 seconds using Imprintables Warehouse Eco-Film -- hot peel. 10 more seconds for the 2nd hit = 20 total. Perfect every time over plastic & metal zippers.
