Default Inkjet dark (5m roll) printed on Epson R1800 and cut on Roland GX24

Hi,

I have been running some tests with transfers on the inkjet dark rol based paper for the Epson R1800 as supplied by Xpres in the UK.

Once the transfers arep rinted no the R1800 printer I then cut them out on the Roland GX24 printer.

Here's the problem I'm having :

When I cut the printed transfers out they need to be transferred to an application tape and I have don this using a 'squeegee'.

The problem is the transfers dont stick to the application tape very well at all - most of them just start peeling away almost immeditely.

I am doing some small multi element transfers with diffrent coloured lettering and I want to keep all the elements in registration with each other so this is the exact kind of system I should be using.

It seems to me that the application tape supplied by Xpres which is meant to do this job on the inkjet dark roll fed paper is not up to the job - it's not sticky enough to hold the transfers in place.

Has anyone had any experience with this sysetm ?

The noly part wheer the system falls apart is in getting the transfers to stick to the application tape.

Any comments appreciated, basicly all we can do now are single cut 'blob' type transfers where you peel the transfer in a single piece of vuy vinyl and then heat press this onto the garment. This works fine but if you want to do something with some text printed with a gradient effect where the letters are not joined and the transfer paper between the letters is weeded then this system fails miserably.

Any ideas ? Perhaps there's an application tape that I could try which has a much stronger adhesive to stop the transfers peeling awa.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Neil

Hi Neil,

Xpress are usually pretty good, but I can't comment on the garment application tape though as I've never used it, sorry. Grafityp do an application tape for printed logo's (Code: TTD), drop them an email and ask if they can send you a small sample to try. Roland VersaCAMM, Sign Making Films, Vehicle Wrapping Films, Solvent printers, Garment Flex

The price per 500mm x 10m roll is £14.95 +VAT and delivery

No, I don't work for them, just a satisfied customer, who uses them alot!. :-)

Hope this helps

Dave

Hi,

Upon reading this post and have just bought a pack A4 sized ink jet dark paper from Xpres i decided to go for the grafityp application tape. It doesn't want to stick to that either!! Am i doing something wrong? because i squeeged the living daylights out of it and still no luck.

Hey Neil, Any sucess?

Thanks

No - I had no success with this at all, from what I now understand this can NOT be done with this equipment and materials.

The products have always been sold with incorrect advice and where they say that a given application tape will work with certain inkjet dark materials this is clearly not the case.

Also from reading up more on this subject I have seen adverts and articles (cant remember where now) that say you can do this on versacamm type printers/cutters which obviously cost a whole lot more.

I suspect the inkjet dark material that is used for solvent based printers is made out of a completely different material and has no problem adhering to the application tape.

What we really need is a small scale (Epson R1800) solvent based inkjet printer which will print on versacamm style inkjet dark materials using versacamm inks, then we would be able cut them out on the smaller cutters and use application tape.

I think there would be quite a market for such systems and am surprised there's nothing available, not that I could find anyway.

Unfortunately it seems that the only printers I can find which use the solvent type inks and papers are wide format machines aimed mainly at the signwriting industry which cost too much to make it worth my while getting one. We don't make that many print and cut transfers to make it worthwhile.

Neil

Hi,

That is a real shame because apart the application tape issue i am quite pleased with the results. we cant be the only two people who've experienced this. Good idea about the printer too!

Thanks for getting back so soon.
