Default Vinyl help!!!

Hi,

I have recently had a t-shirt using xpres cut vinyl returned because the design had started to peel (30 degree wash).

Do you guys have any advice on what i should be paying attention to?

Can you have the vinyl under the press for too long? because i do tend to give the garment a quick press after the backing has been taken off.

Also i have just started using Gildan t-shirts which seem to be a bit more coarse than the one's i used to use.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you might want to do a pre-press to get the moisture out of the shirts and then press your transfer, also a second press is just fine.

Hi,

I use xpres vinyls and gildan t's. I tend to drop the temp a little but increase the time and pressure so that if you look closely to the pressed vinyl you can see the texture of the t-shirt through it. I also press again (with silicon paper) after removing backing for less time but push down a final time just before releasing the press.

I've never had anyone come back and the ones i use myself have lasted well over a year.

If the vinyl looks like it's 'floating' on top of the fabric then you need to press harder. Mine often looks printed because it's pressed into the fabric.

Hi Lee,

Thats a really big help mate thanks! any chance you could tell which xpres you use? i've been using the super flex and i've noticed that when i'm removing the backing sheet it's really pulling against the t-shirt like it dont want to split. It seems ok once i've gave it a second press but after i washed it the vinyl became all wrinkled. any ideas?

Sorry if i'm straying from my orgional post.

I always pre heat the garment and then press the vinyl. I then give it another press with a piece of kraft paper after I take the mylar off . This gives the vinyl a little more heat and helps take some of the shininess away. I wish you luck. ...... JB

I use superflex and easy cut. When you remove the backing try to pull it at a sharp angle to the t-shirt, almost back on itself and 'roll' the backing off.

Maybe you are stretching the vinyl a bit, you do wait till it's cold before you peel don't you?

Before pressing the vinyl, stretch the t-shirt a little and press to get rid of moisture as others have said, then press and second press after backing is removed. I usually start the next t-shirt while i'm waiting for the first to cool.

Hope this makes sense.

Lee
