Default the LONG search for the perfect cutter

I am still agonizing over which cutter to get. I only do very small jobs(I am primarily embroidery) and mostly names so don't want to spend a fortune. I was just going to get the 8" Graphtec, but got talked out of that, mostly because he said the pressure of the blade is not adjustable and is mainly meant for cutting paper. Does anyone know of a cutter in the $300 to $500 range that does have an adjustable blade and is actually user friendly with the vinyl and other materials?ALso, some of the machines are labeled as Vinyl Cutters some are labeled as Cutter/Plotters is there a difference? Lastly, I do not have Corel or AI, Am I going to pretty much HAVE to get one of those to use my cutter efficiently? So many ??????
Thank you !!!

i am no expert, but i understand that those are very good machines, they get good reviews and you also get free software:

Welcome to SellTopia, LLC -

i own a copam, but is more expensive.

i think it's i good ideea to consider one of the 24" cutters, they are in your price range and you will be able to do signs, vehicle graphics, window decorations etc, wich is no rocket science and the revenue is nice.

i believe that cutter plotter and vinyl cutter is the same thing.

There are too many issues with the small Graphtec CraftROBO CC200-20 hobby machine. It's just not up to the task, and a lot of people report that it won't even do what they bought it for. I will never suggest it again (I hope).

If you don't need to contour cut inkjet transfers or printed stickers, then you should do just fine with a USCutter machine. There are a lot of very happy users here on these forums.

The best thing is you will make your money back FAST, so it's easy to upgrade to a brand-name plotter if you'd like later on.

As for plotter, or cutter/plotter or vinyl cutter, they're juts different names for the same thing.

The only ones that are different are print/cut machines. Those have a printer built into them, and cost a minimum of about $10,000.

Good luck!

At some point you will probably be inclined to wish you had a good editing program such as AI or Corel X3 in addition to any cut program that may come with a cutter. I found Corel X3 at online auction last year at a fraction of the list price. Corel is satisifed that mine is a a legit copy and I'm happy.

Now matter the brand or model, I believe due to the technical nature of cutters you will always be able to find someone with a bad experience. It's what will work best for you that matters. Should you decide to go with the CC200-20 there is now an Accublade holder (a metal knurled knob adjustable blade holder) available.

For other than contour cuts I use a Copam (SignCut software) that works well and interfaces easily with Corel X3.

I have tried the Laserpoint with SignBlazer and after experiencing multiple problems with laser illumination and SignBlazer error codes, chose to return it at a loss, it was in my eyes that miserable of a set-up. Yet you will undoubtly find some here to refute that assement.

You can not perform too much research with regard to this purchase, take your time in making a decision and keep in mind if you wait untill tomorrow to decide; like computers you'll probably still be getting more for your money than yesterday.
