Hello everyone. I have been scouring the amazing information here. . .unbelievable. I will be getting a printer for sublimation printing. Another Epson I just have not decided which one. I have plenty of them just not one I can devote to sublimation ink. Epson 7800 (large format prints), Epson 2400 (small prints), Epson R800 for the jewelry images. However, that is a whole different topic!
I am planning on adding some garments, mousepads, stickers etc. to my line in the next few months. Currently, I sell my art in jewelry, prints, etc.
I am thinking the Roland GX-24 is the cutter that I am going to get to cut vinyl, etc. I was curious though if I could use it to cut some of the other stuff that I already do. Such as the round images that I cut for my jewelry, mirrors, buttons, etc.
Do you know if this cutter would also be able to cut rows of 1" and 2" circles in plain and photo paper? I am sure many of them can cut circles but I did not know if this is too small? If I can get it to multi-task with my current stuff and the new venture then it is certainly worth it for me to invest in a really good cutter. If not does anyone know of one that would be good for those dual purposes?
We have the 30" Roland cutter and just the other day I cut a design with circles so small I needed a magnifying glass to see the cut to weed it. To answer your question, I think you will have no problem at all cutting 1" circles. What you need to remember is you'll need to be cutting "paper" with a backer to it (2nd layer) so you have something to cut through to.
Good luck to you .... the GX24 is a great little unit.
This was done on a Graphtec, but I'm sure the Roland can probably do this, too...
There are some extra bits that didn't weed fully (little blobs between the stars), but only because this was the very first design that I'd cut and weeded myself.
I'm not sure if label paper would work or not. I haven't tried such a test. My guess is that you'd want a carrier paper that is more mylar or film based (they sell this stuff by the roll). My fear is the paper could simply tear during the cut.
Hi, Thank you for some of the greet answers!
Well, label paper would not work for what I make. For the images in my necklaces, rings, etc. that I pour resin on - I use high quality photo paper. Those I cut out with a punch or by hand in the case of a few of the odd shaped designs. For the buttons, mirrors I just use a good plain laser paper and a heavy duty button and mirror punch.
When I looked at machines like the craft robo it says you can use plain paper, cardstock, photo paper, etc. You have to use a carrier sheet it says the carrier sheet is reusable of course I imagine you have to replace it occasionally though.
I was thinking some of the pro cutters would be able to do this as well. I am floored by what you did with the Graphtec machine! That is just amazing! I will scope out some of the Graphtec models later today. I am not sold on any brand I just want one that can effectively do vinyl and yet also be able to cut photo paper and plain paper. It seems the Roland's just get a lot of recommendations. Thank you Randy as well - I will look into different carrier papers you mentioned.
