Default Optical Eye Alternative

Is there any way to cut out designs printed by and inkjet, other than manually, like the optical eye on the roland?

I don't quite understand your question. The Roland GX-24 (and several Graphtecs) use the optical eye to read registration marks to automatically cut out your image. Yes, there's a little setup involved, but it's pretty straight forward.

The only other way to do it with today's technology is to cut it out manually with scissors or a hobby knife.

I know of no other way to cut out an image except with the right paper and a cutter with optic eye or other registration system or a pair of scissors or exacto blade or similiar

OK,
I guess I was wondering if you could somehow line-up the cutter with the image that was printed and send the same image to the cutter, therefore cutting out the printout.

I hope that makes sense, it's hard for me explain what I mean.

That's basically what you do with a plotter that has the registration mark sensors. It lines up your contour paths with the paper, then cuts it.

Unless you have a VersaCam-like machine, that's the only way to do it...

Ok,
I understand what the optical eye does. I'm wondering if I can do this process without one. If I can line-up the printout so I can make the cutter cut the same image that is printed.

as Chani says...in a word NO.... you cannot have the cutter follow an outline with some sort of registration..you are just going to be frustrated as hell..
