Default Which Blade?

Hello Forum friends,

I have a Roland GX24and at this time I am only doing cotton garments or 50/50.
I have the blade set,and the force is anout 90-100, but since I statred asking questions here I have found that I am no where near using my Roland they way it could be used.

So what I need to know is this:

What is the best force setting for the vinyl material most like screen printing?
I am using hotflex and thermo flex righ now.

What is the best vinyl material to use for baseball cap designs and what is the proper blade type and setting?

By the way, you guys are great. Every reply has been so helpful!!!!! Thanks!

Are there any videos for doing baseball caps with a hat press and a Roland?

WOW...this is close to my question...our GX24 has worked flawless...we only use Stahls products.....but lately our weeding has become a PAIN !!!....we are all the way up to 220 on the force and it still isnt clean....we run the 45 blade...funny thing is...it cut perfect for one run...then cut the exact same thing for another sheet 10 minutes later...and got incomplete cuts....baffling!....I've replaced blades....teflon strip.....everything....just cant get it cutting...ARGH !

ANY IDEAS I havent tried?

Where are you cutting your Stahls thermo flex at???

Hrm....at first glance, it seems that your blade is dull and should be replaced. But then later, you say you have replaced blades. There is still one other item you could try, replace the cutting strip that is on the underside of the material to be cut (directly below the blade). If that does not cure your problem, then try a little more pressure and a slower cut speed.

Right now, I cut Stahls ThermFilm at 130-145 grams pressure and at a speed of no more than 30cm/second. Blade offset should be .275 mm.

On a side note, I have noticed that over the last year, possibly longer, that the Stahls ThermoFilm has gotten worse, for cutting and weeding. I have noticed that the adhesive that is used to keep the film to the substrate is now thicker and has different adherent properties than some of the (scrap pieces) films that I have from the past. It may be this change in the adhesive, that you are experiencing. I find that the adhesive is even getting on my weeding tools whereas in the past, I never worried about my weeding tools......

Just my 2 cents....

Hi, for blades I would suggest clean cut blades, these blades are sharper than the oem blades and it will probaly be the last blade you will ever buy.

One more thing make sure your blade depth is adjusted correctly.

You want your blade to just clear the material and just barely leave a mark on the backing and not to cut thru. I am not familiar with the speed adjsutment on the Roland you might want to check out the manuel.

For speed adjustment.......... press menu until you see "unsetup" then press the down arrow to select "condition" when you see "condition" press the right arrow and then use the down arrow again to select speed. Use the right arrow again to and then the up and down arrows to set the speed. Once you get your speed where you want it, hit enter and the left arrow several times to back out of the menu. You have to think of it like this I guess:

Unsetup-----
]
-----> other choices
]
Condition----
]
-----> Force
-----> Speed
-----> Offset
]

When in the menu mode, you use the up and down arrows to get to the selection. Once you have the area you want, hit the right arrow to get into the sub menu. Use the un and down again to selct the n right arrow again and up and down to select.

Clear as Mud? LOL

I am not in front of my machine so this is from memory.

I second the commnet on the Clean Cut Blades. Iuse them and they dont take as much force, and stay sharp longer.

I also use Stahls material, and I can def tell the diff between it and other brands.

I would def check the blade depth. If there is not enough blade sticking out, then the bottom of the blade holder will prevent the blade from going through the the material to the carrier. Also make sure that the blade holder is all the way down into the head before you tighten it.

Whenyou insert the blade into the holder, you can twist the cap on the cutting end. This sets how much blade is exposed, thus affecting how deep you can cut. If you were to hold up a credit card beside the blade, you should have just enough of the blade exposed to go through the credit card.

Funny thing is, I just had a very similar problem with some Stahls vinyl. First one cut, and weeded ok...after that, couldn't even cut it. Luckily I had bought only one yard of that color but, it still caused me untold misery. It makes me wonder if there was a bad lot of vinyl out there.
