I just tried to apply some ez weed and cannot get it to stick to the shirt. What am I doing wrong
It said to use 302* which is what I did but it will not come off the mylar
Are you pre-pressing your shirt and than peeling cold?
We normally heat the bottom of our press when we first get started, then pre-press the shirt, press at 302 for 15 seconds, then rub down the image with a shirt, then peel cold. We then repress for 5-8 seconds with a teflon sheet.
You can cold-peel EasyWeed, too? The instructions say peel hot.
I only ask, because my Fiance just got some samples of EasyWeed, peeled HOT, and had absolutely no problem.
Just curious.
But yes, you definitely want to pre-press your shirt for a few seconds. I usually pre-press for about 5 seconds, lift the upper platten, and press again for about 5 seconds to get ALL of the moisture out of the shirt I'm pressing. You can see the vapor rising from the shirt on the second press...
I've had problems with peeling hot sometimes myself. I will let the problem ones cool down then peel. Sometimes it is just a matter of heating it twice.
There are a couple of things that can go wrong when pressing vinyl-
What's the moisture content of your shirts? If it's excessive, the vinyl won't stick to the shirt. Prepress until the steam stops shooting out.
Is your press *really* at 302? Press a little hotter or a little longer if you're not sure.
How deep are you cutting? If you cut too deep, glue can get into the groove when you press and cause the vinyl to stick to the mylar. I have never had this problem with EZ-Weed myself.
Are you using enough pressure?
If you were cutting the wrong side it would be pretty obvious. After you weed there would be no stickiness to the exposed mylar and the vinyl would likely stick to your platen.
I would think that if you are able to weed the design you are cutting the correct side. I prepress also but still have issues with diff shirts and diff materials. I alter the temp and time to get where I need to be. Most of the time the pressure does not have to be altered.
or.....you could try the multicut material from joto it presses beautifully and peels hot even with the normal temperature fluctuations in your press. no fiddling with getting the PERFECT time/temp - no 'sweet spot' required. just press and peel and go on to the next one....

Have you checked the temperature accuracy of the heat press? If it is off, (towards cooler than temperature set at) then you will have the problems that you are describing, peeling of film from shirt.
