I expect to get my new cutter this week. We got the vinyl cutter to supplement our screenprinting. My question is, how do you price your work? Do you use the square inches of the design and multiply that by the cost of the material plus the shirt cost?
I usually do the desgin plus the margin. If the design is 10 x 10 the I use 11x 11 as the square inches. Then I try to charge 4 times the cost. so if my cost is 2 cents a square inch then I charge 8 cents a square inch. as a rule. I use a lot of multicut from JoJo paper and it $39. for 5 yards so each yard is about $7.80 The rolls are 19 inches wide so it is costing me .012 per inch, I would charge about 5 cents or about $6.00 rounding off plus the garment. And I mark the garment x 2. So for my $39 investment I should make about $170.00 back. One thing you need to learn if you don't already is watching the waste. learn about ganging your design so you fit over the whole area and not leave little pieces that might get thrown out.
I price mine about the same. What I do is use running inch price and not sqare inch. If a design or name is 12 inches they pay for 12 running inches. My cost is 22 cents per running inch times 4 to get the price. That way if there is waste that material is covered also I add 2 inches to the design to cover the fall off at the start and end of the design so on a 12 inch design they realy will pay for 14 inches
I charge 10 cents/ sq. inch plus $5. So a 10x10 item is $15. I switched to this after a linear inch pricing to account for long skinny items and multiple items on one run.
One thing I've been pondering is charging extra for items with difficult weeding. I've had 12x12 inch items that take 2 minutes to weed, and the same size items that take 45 minutes to weed plus re-cuts to fix errors. I try to avoid hyper-complex designs when possible.
These prices are just for vinyl decals. I charge a flat rate of $25 for shirts (that includes the shirt) with volume discounts.

That might work on single items but it seems high for volume pricing. I am doing 74 shirts (Hoods and tees combo) with vinyl lettering and iron all transfer combined on back and vinyl pocket letting on front. I am getting 20.20 for the hood and $7.00 for the tee and I am making 40% profit.
