I think that depends on the vinyl brand. I have a friend who uses a cheap brand and it feels really heavy and plastic, like car seat vinyl, but I use Poli-Flex and it feels way better, almost like plastisol.

Regardless the size of the print, I do think it makes a difference, as most people prefer a softer hand to the print and therefore prefer their vinyl as thin as possible.
Beside that, the 3 points you mentioned also can occur when you do screenprinting with regular plastisol inks, so...

Agreed...that is why I keep our designs "open" and sections as thin as possible when using vinyl. However, you can do some really nice simple designs with it and get some great looking designs that really "pop" on dark or colored shirts!!
We've done a couple designs recently for customers with lime green and / or white on black shirts that look really sharp!!

I have certain tricks when designing for vinyl, breaking the design into smaller sections as you mentioned. If you like the neon green try the neon pink on black it looks awsome.

True! My top selers is a black shirt with a neon pink design!
