Default looking for vinyl cutter with optical eye less expensive than Roland GX24

Alright ive been looking around at different cutters. Currently it makes no sence for me to purchase a $1500 rolland as I am just starting out. What I am looking for is something a little less expensive and or smaller than the Roland GX-24 Vinyl Cutter Optic Eye that will still do the registration mark identification. The reason that I would like this feature is for cutting out my often intrequet designs that are on pigment transfer paper so that when I do my transfer I dont have a silly border. If anybody has any help on this issue it would be greatly appreciated

thanks much

just to give you a basis to compare what you learn here....google cutters and read up on all the sites...then the responses here might make better sense...or it did for me

I think the craftrobo cutter has a registration sensor (I don't know if that's the same as an optical eye).

You may want to research that cutter to see if it will fit your needs.

I understand what your saying.....BUT, i know its alot of money in the first place to outlay, but it may be a case of regretting it later when a big order comes in for some 24" cut vinyl and you have to go out to get a new cutter for the job....it does pay in the long run, believe me!

im actually looking into purchasing the 24" copam in addition to the robo cut. I just want the robo cut to cut out detail work on transfer sheets for t's. Ill use the copam for bigger work. The roland gx-24 with optical eye would do both but i can buy the other 2 cutters for not even half the price, unless somebody knows where i can get 1 for around 1k bucks.

thanks

If the Graphtec CraftRobos are anywhere near the quality of our CE5000-60, you won't go wrong. Get the biggest one, tho (15" ?), otherwise you'll need to buy specially cut rolls, which are available, but you're paying the same price as a 15" roll and not getting as much material (I think).

As people have said, you're better off getting a 24" cutter from the start, but if you're not planning on making a business of this right away, you should be fine with the CraftRobo.

The other thing with the smaller machines, tho, is that you may not be able to use your scrap vinyl to cut designs from. I think I read that you can only go DOWN to a certain size, whereas with a larger machine, you can use 2.5" wide scraps to cut small designs from.

Any way you go, good luck!
