I'm curious if anyone has used ThermaCut from Beacon Graphics or TuffCut from Joto?
I notice that Joto says that their version is not recommended for designs with more than one color...why?
I really like that you can order custom colors of these materials. I'm still waiting to hear back from Joto to see what their minimum order is for custom colors are, tho.
I'd also like to know how opaque these materials are? Will the shirt color bleed through? Or, if I'm able to do more than one color, with they bleed into each other?
I really like the idea of these, but I'm wondering how practical they are?

The TuffCut is a heavier film for heavier wear/abuse, so if you do too many colors the shirt will get heavy. Joto does have the MultiCut, which looks like a regular vinyl similar to therma or spectra.

I didn't see custom colors from Joto.

I've used white ThermoFlex vinyl on a bright orange shirt and didn't have any problems. I haven't used it on top of other vinyl, but I've heard/seen some examples that didn't look like they had any issues.

Yes, you can get any PMS color from Joto for TuffCut, but you need to order a minimum of 20 sheets at a slightly higher cost plus additional shipping because it comes from Europe.
The reason you can't layer TuffCut is because it's thinner than regular vinyl and your colors will bleed through, tho I found out you CAN use multiple colors for a design as long as your colors don't overlap.
Yeah, I got an email reply from Joto.
I'm still waiting for a reply back from Beacon to find out about their TheramCut. What's scary about ThermaCut is that it APPEARS that you cut your design like with regular sign vinyl. In other words, it APPEARS as if you DON'T cut in reverse and you need to use transfer tape to apply it. I'm still waiting for a reply from Beacon to find out for sure.
If you need to use thermal tape, then just use the mylar backing from either multicut or thermoflex plus, that's what I do. I keep a few pieces laying around just for that reason. Thanks goes out to jberte for letting me in on that secret.
That's a great idea! Mark also mentioned to me that you can buy rolls of the backer seperately, too.
The good news is that I called Beacon today (I still haven't received an email reply), and you treat it just like regular t-shirt vinyl...you don't need transfer tape.
Once we have our vinyl cutter we'll order some from TuffCut from Joto first, mostly because it costs less and we'll report back.
