So, I just got my vinyl plotter (graphtech 1000). It took a while to get it and my computer (using illustrator) to talk, but it's communicating. The problem now is that when I go to "print" (because illustrator doesn't "cut/plot"), it cuts a relative likeness of the design, but only in rectangles and smaller rectangles. My paths looked fine in the program, what may or may not I be doing wrong?
We are still learning ourselves, as we literally just got our cutter up and running this week. My hubby is the graphic man, but here's what he told me to tell you. In Illustrator, he found that you need to go into Pathfinder, there's a button on the left that says "add to shape area" click on this (with your image selected). Try it out and see.
One other thing. Say you had a circle drawn but wanted to cut the centre of the circle out and the outer circle. In other words, say you had a circle made with a thick line. The plotter wont just cut out both sides of the thick line. You must select you image. In the same place as before (pathfinder) click the other button called "subtract from shape area". This ensures that you will be able to weed the inner part of the circle and all the outer (or just the thick line that makes up the circle).
I know that probably doesn't make sense without diagrams! Sorry.
