Default Vinyl coming off

I'm sure this has been asked several times as well, but I just did a bunch of baseball shirts, the 2 button henley type and the back had the names on the shirts. The guy called me and said that some of the names were coming off. Can someone help as to what I might say to this guy and what would have caused just some of the names to come off. I made sure the moisture was out of the shirts, double pressed and everything. I used a teflon pillow between the layers of shirt to offset the buttons, could that have something to do with the names not sticking? I would have thought with the double press that would have solved that problem? Thanks for any thoughts.

what heat press material did you use? sad to say, the only time i ever had that problem was with spectracut - and thankfully it was on a test shirt, not for a customer.....

if your time and temp and pressure are correct, i'd say it's got to be the material itself

A lot of it has to do with making sure your material being used is right for the substrate that you're applying to. Spectracut works well on cotton and cotton/poly fabrics. I'm not sure if this is the material you were using, but you might double check the manufacturers recommendations on applicable substrates and make sure that it checks out with the content of you garment.

I'd recommend, having them return the garments and recutting the designs to apply. You'll have some additional labor in removing the current names, but it will preserve your customer and your reputation.

I would also be interested in what brand and color you used for these shirts. I would try taking a heat gun to them as I have did that to a couple shirts and it brought it off, just be careful not to melt the "vinyl" as the heat gun gets very very very hot. If you are sucessful in removing it, try another brand and see if your results are different. Good luck with it and keep us posted.

Not to derail this thread...but I have a similar question. This is my first experience with the vinyl.

I ordered (Stahls) precut/spaced player names to go onto polyester mesh shirts for the sheriffs boat patrol. How should it feel when you peel them? I pressed at the temp and time they said, but it still seemed difficult to peel the transfer plastic off. I even had to repress a couple of them where the edges didnt go down well and were loose. They said to cold peel (cool to touch), which I did. I am using a Knight clam digital press.

I used the Spectra Cut II in red. I haven't had any problems with any of the other shirts I did using this material and I did a lot of ball shirts this summer. I think it's the shirt. The fronts aren't coming off, or the numbers, it's just the names. Like I said, they are the 2 button henleys, 100% cotton, and I'm wondering if by putting the tefelon pillow in the shirt that I didn't get enough pressure right where the name is? I could hardly shut the press as it was, I hate to increase the pressure, but not sure what else to try. With the heat gun, would a blow dryer work? Or does that not get hot enough to take this off? Thanks for all the help.

Did you back off on the pressure because of the buttons? If so that could be why some are coming off. You may want to try to open the shirt next time and just put the back on the press, leaving the front below it. If the shirt is big enough to do this with, some little league shirts are not, and you have to get used to working upside down.
