Hey guys a question for ya. A guy asked me to make some vinyl decals for his 4-wheeler. All the vinyl i have is oracal-651. Is this durable enough and will it stick to 4-wheeler plastic? thanx in advance guys.
It will stick to it, but tell him when he washes it to be careful not to get the sprayer too close if he takes it to a car wash or uses a pressure washer. Cast vinyl is better to use but I have used Oracal 651 in a couple cases on my buddies.
hmmm. maybe i should just invest in a few colors of the cast. Im sure i will get rid of it eventually. Does the cast have a better adhesive? What makes it more durable than calendered?
i know the calendered and cast are a different process but do they have the same adhesive or does the cast have a better adhesive? The reason im asking is because i dont want to sell decals to atv riders and iron workers (for their hard hats) if the vinyl is not going to stick well.
AFAIK the adhesive is the same, I could be wrong. Cast vinyl conforms the curves and angles alot better then calendared does. It is also thinner and withstand pressure from water more then calendared. I have did about 10-12 little league baseball/softball helmets with calendared and have seen no problems at all from them, but I'm sure they don't use a pressure washer to clean 'em.
I've done helmets, atvs, car windows, thousands of license plates, truck lettering, motor homes, mailboxes and you name it, including tuxedos( not sure how this one worked though). Only twice in 4 yrs has anyone had a problem, once on a license plate that had been through God only knows what, and once when a customer tried to put decals on a painted bed headboard. When I first started I too was a little concerned but I have long since gotten over it. Like I said before if you want to be safer use the seal it pen to seal the edges for extra safety.
