Design considerations? Roland GX-24 cutting length?
Wondering when one would run into length considerations using a roland 24 cutter. Have designs about 2 inches wide, medium complexity, but 4 to 6 feet long. Want to place 6 across on 15 inch wide vinyl and let the cutter go at it.
Is this practical?
Any guidance appreciated.
Re: Design considerations? Roland GX-24 cutting length?
Thanks, exactly the information I was looking for. Would not have thought of the run out. My other roll feed machines do not have the dynamic movement of a cutter, new to me.
With the cost of the material I will be using, want to eliminate as many potential problems as possible.
Thanks Again, Bill

I've made some 8' runs with the GX-24. I set the pinch rollers in the middle of the length of vinyl (the 4' mark) so if I'm off just a little, it doesn't wander as far on the ends.
You can also move the rollers in a little from the edge. You give up a little vinyl, but you never run off the edge.
Re: Design considerations? Roland GX-24 cutting length?
I do what John does with my GX24. Don't try to choke in too many. Leave a bit on the edges for the pinch rollers in case the substrate shifts. Sometimes when I cut Thermoflex it has shifted. As suggested before, I also run the length out to make sure it will track straight prior to cutting.
Re: Design considerations? Roland GX-24 cutting length?
I have a 24" Roland and cut 22" wide up to 12'. Loading the vinyl straight is vital. The plotter should have a feature noted piece, edge or roll which will measure the vinyl available for the cut. You can also watch the plotter during the cut, if the vinyl is going out from under the pinch roller, pause the cut, move the roller and then continue the cut. Ther are cutters made with a sproket system and perforated vinyl that leave no doubts about long cuts.
