Hello
I was wondering how much detail can you get out of a vinyl cutter plotter? I mean, can there be like small areas to cut? What is the smallest font you can use? Do you have any pictures of vinyl designs details? I am thinking of getting one myself.
Thank you

You can go as small as you want or as large as your cutter can handle. I personally try to stick with standard sizes on my website but more then willing to go up or down. Keep in mind that you need to weed everything you cut. I personally do not weed, thats my wifes part of the business, so I really do not care what size as long as I do not get yelled at .. hehe
I tried weeding and its not for me, i can do it but hate it. My wife likes it so it works out perfect.
I think the smallest font I have printed so far was .2 of an inch. I got yelled at for that one :-)
I cut and weed everything before it goes on the website; then post the actually pics, not a image from the program. This does two things that I found very helpful ...
1. I know I can cut and weed that specific item and how long it takes to do so.
2. It shows my customers exactly what they are getting, this way everyone is on the same page.
I been doing Vinyl Designs for over 2 years and today bought my first set of equipment to make shirts :-)

Hello StickerNut
Thank you for the info. I would like to see you site. Can you add your url to your signature or send it to me in a private message?
Thank you!
You can do very small details but you wont want to if doing several multiples. Weeding is very time consuming and re-cuts are probable when you go tiny. I dont think there is a vinyl person out there who enjoys tiny letters. I have done logos small enough to fit on die cast model cars...made me cross eyed. Sometimes at events folks think smaller is cheaper when purchasing decals and thats only in the case of saving materials. Smaller is way more time consuming and time is more valuble than vinyl.
Weeding is the process of removing the excess pieces of vinyl from your design.
For example, if you used your cutter to cut out the word "Oklahoma", you would need to remove the vinyl from the middle of the O's and the a's, and also between the words and all around the edges.

Yes, and for a good example of how that can be intricate...
Look at the lower right hand side of the image Motoskin posted. All of the black spaces had to be "weeded" out of the print, before it was transferred to the shirt. If you are doing 10 shirts... hey, no problem... 100, hmmm... 1,000... ouch!
This is so cool
Thank you for the info my friends.
I have a silkscreening equipment and I love it. For what you say, I think this is going to be great not for long runs, but lets say I make a design. I only make one t shirt with vinyl and post it in my site. Then each time I get an order I make it at the moment, which will cut expenses and storage needs. I am so convinced now.
