Hello Folks,

As the title suggests I'm just wondering what information must be displayed on t shirts sold in the UK/EU?

I read a big long post about it here:

But that seems to be US based.

The main thing I'm wondering is whether the counrty of manufacturing has to be stated. I just got some samples of the Fanshirt Range (French based) and while they have info as to what the shirt is made of and care instructions there is no mention of where it was made.

Am asuming if these guys do it it must be legal. Similar situation with Earth Positive Organic t shirts, no mention of where they are made.

If someone can tell me what is legally required in the EU or where to find it, I'd appreciate it.

I can't give you specific advice on the legalities, but there are numerous garments sold in the UK, including many by major retailers that don't state the country of origin.

On a practical level, apart from a few flag waving patriots, I really don't believe that most people are interested in where a product originates from, as long as its well made, fit for purpose and at a price they want to pay. What you do want to ensure on your product labels however, is an accurate representation of size and sensible garment care instructions. You'll have minimal hassles with customers that way.

Thanks, my intention would be to leave the care instructions label there (which has no mention of country of origin) and remove the manufacturers label perhaps replacing it with my brand one.

i have asked about this and ive been told the only thing required in the UK is fabric ie 100 percent cotton, no company name, care instructions, country of origin, size

Please ask someone who knows the law but i believe this to be the required minimum information for a garment neck label
